breaking up at 3k

my 96 gt pi started running like crap yesterday. everything was fine and now
it seems to either lose spark or fuel and kinda sounds like a two steep at 3k rpm. I'm not sure what it could be because as soon as it gets past 3k it stops and will run fine again . i have changed the plugs and cleaned the maf and it is still doing the same thing. any advice would be grate .

The only time my car ever did this was when my MAF was broke....

you wouldnt happen to have a sct tuner to datalog the maf voltage?

no tuner but i did have an old stock maf that i put on to see if that wold fix it .that seemed to help for about 50 miles and now it is sputtering when ever i give it gas .
it also has a Miss at idle now . i bought this car from the guy the way it sets now and have been trying to work out all the bugs.

Make sure there's no water in any of ur spark plug boots

well there was no water in the spark plug boots. buutttt the plug boots themselves were shot and not making contact with the plugs so i replaced them with some duralast plug wires and the problem is gone .
