Ok so first car info: 95 Mustang GT. 5.0, 5 speed manual
Known mods: BBK Shorties, hollow cats, cherry bomb incinerator cat back, MSD wires, Mild Cam (?)
Bought the car with these mods in it and i'm having some tuning issues.
IS there a cam that someone might use that gives all low and mid range power but loss at high rpm? (above 4,000).
i have a ton of power and pull between about 2,800 rpm and 3,500. Timing is set about 13 degrees advanced. It starts kinda hard, just lugs over a few times before starting up. If i retard the timing, i get misfire above 3,500 rpm real bad and the SES light comes on for a rich condition about 10 times a day. If I Advance the timing more, i get awesome power above 3,500 rpm, all the way to 6K. It will smack me back in the seat and take off, but it will also spark knock like hell that advanced and hardly starts at all when it's hot.

Any ideas here??? I've also noticed car is running hot. Distributor is brand new from auto zone, OEM Spec. Coil looks factory and old. plugs are so-so in it right now.
is it possible my cam to crank timing might be off by like 1 tooth?
Somebody help! I'm tired of trying to fix this and feeling like shooting at the stars instead....

have you put a tune on it with a chip? Sn's do not generally like different cams and its recomended after swapping them.

there are other things that cause that as well such as a vac leak. Not many people go through the trouble of tearing down a motor to put a cam in it and then put the stock heads and intake back on as there would just not be much to gain.

OK ive sprayed throttle body cleaner and starting fluid around all gasket areas and vac lines with no change in rpms beyond normal running. like i said it does have a lope to it, but the fluids didnt make any difference.
is it possible it could be due to lack of ECM Chip? Any way to verify if it's been installed or not???

Somebody suggested i get a computer from a 93 GT, they said it might control the timing and air mixtures better, and they said it has better tuneability than the stock 95 ecu. Whats that about?

yep, im still a newbie...

No dont do the swap you would have to rewire alot of stuff and loose control of you fan. I dont know y some one would put a cam in a stock motor but you never know to really find out you would have to tear it down to see the numbers on the cam. Only way I know.
