cam help

Im looking for a good setup on cams for my 1998 gt with PI intake and NPI heads. I would like to not have to change the valve springs springs but still get a nice loping cam if thats possible.

Well what affordable cams and valve springs are out there.. i want a fair gain in horse power but don't wanna have to worry about piston to valve clearance.

what the hell does it mean to notch the pistons? Is there a cam i can get to get around that?

It means to create a groove for the valve so there isn't piston to valve contact...

There are, I posted in another thread that I'm running Houston Performance 292 cams. They don't require notching or any valvetrain upgrades. I picked up 40whp and a broader torque curve on an otherwise bonestock pi motor. And they have a very nice lope at idle....

Ive tried looking online for those cams and cant find anything how much did they cost you?

look up the cams & valvetrain section. You'd need to give them a call to actually purchase them. I paid $400 for them, I think they are requesting cores now so they increased the price to $450.

Wish I had a good vid of my car but it's back apart right now so I don't have any video :(

Regardless, this is my friends car, he goes by UnixHH on forums, he helped install my cams and he has a couple of vids on youtube...

Look @ #1 cylinder you will see the notches..

I'm running comp cams 268 with beehive springs they are for npi but the car isn't out yet people told me it should have a good lope sound to it

So thats what those are for ive seen that before but didnt know thats what that was for.
400 dollars if resonable cause ive seen cams goo for 800 dollars and not looking to spend that much

im sorry for draging up an old thread but im still looking for the right cam.. what is the largest cam i can run without having to worry about piston to valve clearance? I plan on using the new set of cams in a freshened up set of pi heads that are ported

It's not about running the largest cam you can throw at a motor. Run the one that's best for your setup.

I love my hp292's as mentioned earlier in the thread. For a bonestock motor with no valve notched you can't go wrong with a 40whp gain.

well heres what i got if it helps.. ive got 75mm throtte body stack racing intake plenum, CAI, pi intake, going to get ported pi heads, BBK shorty ceramic coated headers, full exhaust, 2800 stall, 4.10 gears, and atuner
