So, I'm getting ready to buy camshafts for my PI swap, pending a sale on my jeep so I can get them, as I already have the heads.

I've heard numerous things on numerous camshafts, and am so confused that I dont know what to do.

HiTech-
Heard they have the highest gain on power with their stage II camshafts, require aftermarket springs and tune

Patriot-
Cheapest set on the market, at 450 dollars, heard you dont have to change the springs but have heard they are crap.

Comp-
Some of the most expensive cams out there, heard anythign past the 270 series requires lower motor work to prevent PTV problems, most require aftermarket springs.

CMS(VT)-
Fairly priced, heard power gains of 20-30 rwhp, stage II requires tune and springs.

I also heard Trickflow makes cams for the 4.6..? They supposedly have a stage II cam and spring deal for 600 bucks? Anyone know anything about this..??

My question is this mainly..
I know that the beehive springs will work fine with any cam that requires it, but as far as tuning goes- I know the car will run, but wont run to its full potiential. This means I will HAVE to get it dyno tuned, and buy a 300 dollar tuner as well..correct..?
And IMO, I think the VT stage II cams sound the sickest..I'm pretty much sold on them..but Idk..whats your guys knowledge/opions?

Im in the same boat. Ive got my heads, intake ect. ect. Saving up for the cams now and Ive been researching cams also.

Its a hard choice for sure...lol I know of 3 Mustangs in town (all new edge) that are cammed. A HiTech, comp 270's and Patriot. And out off all of them the HiTech's (Trevors) car is the best running, he ran a 12.1 on a stock motor. The Patriots sound good and run strong also. Like I said its a hard choice.
I will let ya'll know what I pick, I will be getting them next moth hopefully.

As of now I would put them in this order:
1. HiTech
2. Patriot... because of price
3. VT
4. Comp

Havent heard/seen enough on the TF cams to judge.

If I had to choose in a particular order I would say...

1. VT stg2s
2. Comp Cams
3. Hi-Tech
4. I wouldn't go patriot I would save another $100 and get something else

The reason for my rankings is because I have seen results from the VT cams on the track, dyno and street and they are very good and consistent on their results. Comp cams are very good too and have great results and evidence to back them up. Hi-Tech, all I have heard is dyno #'s but nothing else, so until then that is where they are going to stay. Patriot, I just really wouldn't bother with their cams because not alot of people use them so results are very mixed and why take the chance on saving a few pennies rather than getting the cams that you know what they can do.

Only major suspension upgrade is a tubular k-member, rest is your average UCA, LCA ect. ect.

So if I were to do hitech cams, there should be no reason I shouldnt hit 12's../8.40's 1/8ths. I have nearly every bolt on..minus headers, but am getting those :D

You can take a car with only 270rwhp and put it into the 12's as long you have a good setup and a good driver mod.

It says the springs arent required to be changed on the hitech cams..that could save me some money..and I never take my car past 6000 rpm anyway..any benefits to spending another 200 bucks on springs?
Itll still lope the same..power will be right around the same?..
