My mom has a 94' Ford Escort and she says that when the car is running at idle, the fan doesn't come on and the engine starts to get hot (obviously) but when the car is moving, the fan comes on. Is there anyway I can check the fan speeds to see if they both come on? Any advice would be great.

Thanks.

hm... makes no sence to me.. .. . id throw the thermostat into boiling water and make sure it opens properly. that would be first step... then test the voltage to the fan's electrical...

im also thinking the motor might be sticking and the air passing through it gives it enough of a "jump start" to get it spinning properly.

The fan probably is not coming on when she is moving, but the air flow through the radiator is keeping it from overheating.

My nickle.
