I thought I replaced my cap and rotor when I did my last oil change so I'm wondering what would cause them to go bad so quickly. The car came with ford racing wires and an msd coil. Could those be the culprits? This isn't normal, right?
You can always clean those contacts with sandpaper. But the spark doesn't care if the contacts are clean it just needs to jump the gap. Personally, seeing that you have the cap off, you can either replace it or clean it. If you see a groove where the spark jumps to the rotor then it's time to replace. I tend to replace before any dyno tuning, track event or at least every six months (I drive a lot of miles).
