Hey guys, well i was driving the other day and my car made a weird movement going down the road about 60 mph. It kinda felt like the rpm dropped or you turned on the air conditioning... exept it would go back and forth... kinda like a rocking motion. Well right after it did that the car popped a CEL... I got it checked at advanced, it was:

DTC (Codes)

P1151
Manfacurer Contrl.
Fuel Air Metering

Thats what the thing printed out.

The guy told me it would probably be the MAF sensor or the IAT sensor and that i needed to probably clean them. So i got a bottle of MAF cleaner and took it home. Took off the stuff and gave it a good cleaning. Had the battery pulled for over 15 to reset the computer and code. Well it ran fine for a day and while on my way back to my apartment at school the car did the same "rocking" motion and i was like oooo shit. Well 10 seconds later the CEL popped again...

What could this be? I don't get it but the thing is dumping gas into the car b/c its getting awful gas milage and smells extreamly rich.

Thanks for your help guys

Mitchell

Forgot, check for airleaks behind the MAF first, but with your mileage it's probably the O2's.

ok, check for leaks behind the maf ... so some starter fluid or carb cleaner on the fittings after the maf...

So can i change the back 02's to the front? since i'm running mil eliminators will that work? or will that hurt it too? thanks.

Naw, the code only spcifies front or rear. I think the O2's carry different part number's, but you can try it if you don't find a leak.

ok, i had the ones on the back throw codes before when the mil elim. came unplugged. But i was wondering since the rear told me which bank was messed up... it would say like lower on left bank or right bank ya know.

I think, off the top of my head, 1151 is the driver's side and 1152 is the passenger's come to think of it. Try googling the code

yea thats what i was seeing on other sites... but if the car was running lean then the car shouldn't be getting such bad gas milage should it? I was thinking that lean cars got better mpg... o well. It should be the drivers side one though.

The sensor indicates lean, but it's not lean, so it dump's fuel, kinda backwards I know.

Hmm, well sometimes it bucks .... exspecially at stop lights ... it will rev down to like 3/400 rpm and then go back up and you can smell the un burnt gas.

I looked in my hayness manual and it didn't even list that.... it had P0151..... Upstream Heated 02 sensor circuit low voltage (bank 2) ??? what the heck is that ?

Why would it not have p1151...

Cuz Haynes sucks, lol. Basically your faulty O2 is telling the computer the car is lean when it isn't, so the computer is freaking out and dumping fuel into it to bring back to spec, causing it to run rich, buck, surge, stall, and generally run crappy.
