changing dipstick help needed

ok, well a few months ago the end of my dipstick fell off.i havnt been able to check my oil level ever since it fell off :dontknow:.i went to order a new one from ford but they tell me i have to replace the dipstick housing also since something about the new dipsticks are different then the original ones...

what i need help on is, how hard or easy would it be to change the dipstick housing?

i have a 96 mustang gt..production date is 05/96 just incase it matters

Most of us have said a few bad words dealing with the dipstick tube. We also suggest the Lokar dipstick that you can get for @50 at summit. It is much easier to deal with then a Ford replacement.

damn..i shouldve asked for suggestions where to get one from before buying the oem replacement..i had to pay for the replacement before they can order it..so if i screw it up putting it in ill go for the lokar next...

Pull the motor and add long tube headers. It's the only thing that makes it worth doing it.

also, i just got my 96 a few weeks ago or so.... changed the oil, used a new motorcraft filter and mobil, 6qts, fired her up, shut her down, check dipstick and it reads 3.4 qt low???? so should i add oil or just feel comfortable knowing i have 6 qts in there and HOPE someone changed the dipstick with one thats wrong. i've been kind of worried about it. also when i drained it using a 7qt drain pan it was nearly full...
