i have had a slight ticking noise coming through my speakers for a while now but it wasnt that loud. I installed some gauges the other day and grabed the ground where the radio is grounded to. The clicking noise is now louder. I tried taking the gauges off the ground and just have the radio on the that ground and i am still getting noise. I ran a seperate ground wire and disconnected the factory ground and i am still getting this noise. I do have an aftermarket radio that is getting old. any ideas its driving me crazy

The clicking or ticking noise is your ignition sound being received by your radio. A whining noise is the alternator sound.

I have had very little success in installing anything aftermarket as far as sound system components go and not have some kind of electrical interference noise come through, even when using the factory grounding wire. "Noise reducers" seem to do very little, if any, as well. So far the one i've had the least problem with is the stereo in my wife's 1966 Mustang. Go figure.
