So I need a new clutch because the one I have is slipping really badly and I wanted to get your guys opinion on which one I should get. My choices are a Spec stage 1, a Ram powergrip, and the king cobra. I am also buying the Steeda firewall adjuster and Steeda Double Hook Quadrant if that makes any difference. Any responds appreciated, thanks.

I've had the King Cobra clutch in 2 mustangs and love the clutch. Good grip and not too stiff of a clutch pedal

If you can get a hold of a Fiore Racing quadrant & adjuster, Do it! Very nice piece. - use the OEM cable -

As for the clutch, The Spec Stage 1 is known to be noisy. I would go with the King Cobra unit.

*I read a thread from someone recently that used a King Cobra pressure plate w/ a McCloud ( I know that's not spelled right) friction disc. Was very pleased with it.

These are nice additions also: Ford OEM TOB, a FFRP pilot bearing with needle bearings, a FFRP steel TOB retainer sleeve and a new Ford OEM clutch fork.

OH, and be sure to resurface the flywheel!

I had a King cobra pressure plate with a zoom MF clutch, as a package it was a great price and it held 523RWHP in my vortech supercharged 331. Clutch felt pretty close to a stock one as well.

I have run a King Cobra in both my 89 and 95 and it was fine on a stock setup. I just installed a McLeod stage 2 setup from Maximum Motorsports and I like it so far. I would stay away from the Steeda setup. I had it installed and it would not release the clutch completely. I ended up blowing a throwout bearing out, and it would not release the new clutch. Get one like Maximum Motorsports or McLeods that retains the proper arc and uses a stock cable. Good luck.

I had a Spec 2 in my 95 GT and it was pretty decent. I have a Centerforce Dual Friction now and that's holding up to some good track abuse. Centerforce makes great clutch's as well

check out clutchmasters. High Quality stuff, and it's the best clutch I've had yet :headbang:

i have the king cobra set up right now, but i'm not a fan of the disc that the kit comes with. i think mine might be starting to slip after only a year of sporadic test & tune sessions. At the strip i run a pair of MT ET slicks and the bottle spraying out of the hole. one clutch that i used to run that i liked was a Hays clutch package (http://www.jegs.com/i/Hays/490/95-201/10002/-1). it had a slight chatter when first taking off during regular driving but no matter how hard you dropped the clutch the car went, the only downside was when i finally pulled the clutch the plate had ruined my pressure plate and flywheel.

I just purchased a King Cobra for my '89 coupe this weekend. It is a HCI ~280 rwhp combination and I don't need a fancy clutch.

The Cobra clutch is a tried-and-true proven clutch, and is very inexpensive. I got mine on eBay for ~$175 shipped including the pressure plate, disc, pilot bearing, and throwout bearing. Just be careful you're getting a genuine cobra clutch and not a knockoff.

It is hard to beat the performance of this clutch for the money.

I put in a Centerforce Dual Friction at the beginning of the summer to go along with my mostly stock motor, and even though it may be overkill I love it. It grabs hard and has a light pedal, and that is partly due to the maximum motorsports quadrant and oem cable, which are a great combo.

50Fanatic, I bought a Spec Stage 1 before I decided to go with the Centerforce, and it is still brand new in the box. Let me know if you decide you want to go with that option.

I found that I had to make alot of adjustments with my KC in my '97 Cobra, particularly after a few passes at the strip on drag radials. After one session, I pushed off making the adjustment and the clutch was toast after about a week, but that's my own fault for procrastinating!!! I replaced it with a Spec 2 and never had problems, never needed adjustments. The pedal feel was stiffer than the KC, but nothing to harsh for daily driving.
