guy I bought the car from said something about a 2500# clutch being in it...all that I know is that the takeup is kinda not smooth (grabby) and the pedal effort is super high, is this normal for a "performance" clutch? also when the clutch engages I can hear a slight click or light clunk, any idea what that could be?
real quick, what do you mean by "takeup is knda not smooth (grabby)"? do you mean when you press down on the clutch, the clutch pedal doesnt go down/up smooth?
if thats what you mean, it might be one of two things, depending on what kind of set up you have. most people will, when trying to save money, change out the clutch to a performance one and leave the stock clutch quadrant alone. while this will save you money, it wont last long. since the clutch quadrant is what the clutch cable rides on right above the clutch pedal (under the dash), it has a tendancy to warp and bent when used with an after market clutch (the stock unit is a plastic one, which is why it bends). after market clutches require a lot more pressure to engage them, and thats what ultimately bends/breaks the stock units.
if they did the job right and upgraded to solid aluminum clutch quadrant, make sure the cable isnt riding along the edges of the quadrant. if it does it, it has a tendancy to snag the cable and slowly cut it. this happened to me about 3 times, each time resulting in a snapped clutch cable. if this is the case, replace the cable and the quadrant with a new one, and make sure you install the quadrant correctly with the shims it needs (just regular washers will work)
as for the pedal riding high, check to see if you have an aftermarket firewall adjuster, if you dont, get one. it allows you to raise and lower the pedal. after market clutch units, because of their pressure plates high-holding capacity, tend to push the pedal higher than stock, which is why you need the firewall adjuster.
