Are you kidding? Of course it is bad for your transmission because you will be grinding gears unless you can rev match perfectly every single shift.

If you really want to learn, get a beater and practice on that until you either A. ruin the transmission or B. get good at it.

you can do it but it'll grind bad if the rpms aren't matched. my question is why not just shift the proper way in the first place?

I had to do it with the roush when the pressure plate failed and it would not disengage gears. I didn't grind once but I learned on a beater car which I grinded the gears out of learning it. It's a lost art that I think not many people know how to do successfully. I was lucky enough to get the car home without grinding...

I don't recommend doing it unless absolutely necessary but, turned the car off, slipped into first, pushed the clutch in (to trip the switch on the clutch, didn't actually disengage the clutch since it failed) and cranked it over and just let the starter do the work.

I can do it... Its easy when you have to drive 350 miles with a ripped clutch cable...

Not one missed shift and almost no stops lol.. It was hard but i did it...

Truckers do this all the time btw... Maybe you can ask one of them to teach you on his BIG RIG... LOL

It's a matter of learning where the road speed/input shaft speed of the trans is matched perfectly with the engine revolutions, and VIOLA, the gear just slots home...

IF you can do this PERFECTLY then you will not ruin anything, but there is really no sense in trying to do when you have a syncromesh box and a clutch...

Why dont you learn how to rev match or double declutch instead? It will be more beneficial and less destructive to your TR3650...

I practiced on my SUV and can master the art of shifting that thing without the clutch, but I don't do it on my car. Before I got the tranny rebuilt I did though, it's actually easy to do, you just have to RPM match, but if you eff up, the noise, oh god the noise!

Its easy to do, i do it when im eating and driving
i hold the steering wheel with my left knee,
you must match nor find the rpm range to do it, some gears might grind
i cant never get 5th to shift

Its a bad idea, dont do it unless you are forced to, your tranny will love you long time, HAHA.

iTS GOOD TO BE BACK!!!? :eek:ccasion14:

Lol yeah good to be back.

I was just wondering and I knew it was bad on your tranny. My cousin is gonna let me try it on his Saturn.

As for double clutching, I prefer to rev match. Just seems easier for me to downshift that way.

The sweet spot is about 3200 rpms in our cars. You can do it without grinding at all. I'm not saying it's not detrimental, just saying it's possible. I just do it to mess with friends lol. Bring it up to 4k, and then put light pressure on the next gate. When the revs fall to around 3k it will slip in.

If you arent planning on racing as a career, dont bother..

But lol story, my friend Todor has a nice SRT-4, but he is a terrible driver, and thought he could rev match on 95, and it wasnt working, so he forcebly tried...oh god

Yeah that's the concept. Put it in neutral and let the tons drop to where the gear will slip right in.

It's easy, in anything, just hold pressure on the shifter, don't force it, and blip the throttle, it'll pop right in. I do it to impress girls, but other than in an emergency or non-sychro trans theres no reason to do it.

It's not bad either if you know how to do it BTW.
