Guys, I want to get some coil overs. I don't really know that much about them, so I was wondering if you all could help me out. Will a coil over kit turn any shock/strut into a coilover, or do you have to buy special ones. What kits for shocks/coilovers do you guys recommend. Feel free to post anything that you think I should know, and assume I don't know anything :)

The upr kit will allow you to use any strut. You just don't want a coil over kit for threaded struts, like the QA1 coil overkit. I'm personally going to get the upr coil over kit.

UPR and MM make some nice coilovers. I used to have MM ones with my Bilsteins and they worked great. But UPR still makes a quality piece. I am running Strange fox body struts right now with Strange coilovers and MM 4 bolt CCs. No problems what so ever for over a year. You get all the adjustability you want for the front. Certain coilover kits are made for certain struts so make sure you read up on the descriptions before you buy. You will also have to decide on what springs to run.

it all depends on what you want for a ride. a 175 will be better for the strip to where a 225 would be better for a road coarse. I have 175 on mine and use it for street/strip. Seems to work out just fine.

that's what I want then. This is going to be a street strip car. I've read some reviews on the upr kits and I think I might go with those. Which shocks do you guys suggest? I want some that are going to be good for strip, but be decent for daily driving as well.

I'm happy with the adjustable Strange struts. A nice lakewood 70/30 would treat you nice for a DD/strip car. 90/10s would be better but you do sacrifice the ride just a little bit. We put 90/10s and 50/50s on my wifes 83 GT and it rides fine with the Eibach drag springs. Koni and Tokico make some nice struts. If you can afford to get some adjustables. That way you will be set for street and strip at the turn on a knob.

well 90/10s refer to the compression/rebound of the strut. The 90/10 makes for better weight transfer at the track. The 70/30 makes for better street handling with better weight transfer then a stock strut. The 50/50 means the rears have an even rebound, compression. With adjustables all the way around you can dial in some of your suspension for the track then put them back to a softer setting for the drive home. 90/10 takes bumps hard. 70/30s take them easier then the 90/10s but still stiffer then stock. Hope it clears up some things.

Get Jeff (Dalamar) in here, he has MM's front and rear on his car, he said it's a great kit.

90/10.. This will be our example, ok? A normal shock is just as hard to compress as it is to extend, right? That is 50/50. a 90/10 takes 10 percent of the effort to extend, but 90 to compress. So, your front end goes up easy, comes down hard.

I think if I get the Lakewood shocks I'll be going with the 70/30. I've read some reviews on the internet, and they seem to be pretty good.
