I heard something the other day that had never occured to me and i dont know how true it is. I was told that by puting a colder t-stat in that the car would not operate right because it wont get up to operating temp therefore the comp wont go into closed loop. In my opinion the comp would adjust for the temp. of the car but on the other hand what i heard makes sense. what is everyones opinon on that

The general rule of thumb is not to go below a 180 T Stat. A 160 will stay open b/c it will continuously be trying to keep the temperature at the level. Heat is not a bad thing for these cars, just to much heat is the culprit. The stock T stat is set at 195 where the optimal operating temperature is.

if the car doesn't get to operating temperature, typically you see that the oil in it will congeal, because it never fully thins out and moves around. It just stays thick because it doesn't get hot enough. Easiest way to tell if a car is running to cool is to see little oil flakes on the valve covers or under the intake. That can also be caused by not changing your oil or it sitting a long time.

yea the car is running hot it goes all the way to the end of the normal line. i think i might have a clogged radiator. I pulled the petcock out and nothing came out and the end was all gritty and caked with shit. im gunna try the prestone stuff that is supposed to break up the sh*t in the radiator
