i recently got my vert top replaced with a black canvas top. everything looks top notch except the trim piece between the top and the trunk area is pretty faded. i just wanted to know if anyone has taken this piece off (if its safe to and wont damage the top) and painted it. thank you.

Are you talking about the black strip around the trunk lip? If so I just used some cleaner wax and it looks like new again

Mine has actually started to chip and the paint has faded. I ordered some trim black spray paint and I am going to sand it smooth and paint it right on the car. I will just tape up and cover the area with paper so no overspray. I need to re-spray my rear spoiler so I picked up a few cans of it.

Are you talking about this piece?

That's the center well molding piece. I saw this as soon as you posted it, had no idea what you meant though. When I had my car painted, I bought these parts new. I'm sure I could have cleaned this part. My 2 sides needed new ones. My painter saws there is paint just for these parts, though. If this is it, I can ask him what his opinion is. Let me know.

Depending on what that piece is made of, If its plastic you can use some shoe polish and let it dry and it will work, or liek bob said you can paint it.

Its metal trim pieces, thats why I chose to buy the paint.

there is only a few screws holding it on, open the trunk and you will see them. its very easy to remove. I would highly recommend removing it before any painting is done, how pissed would you be if you ended up getting paint on your new top?

less then 5 minutes to take off and you can sand it fully and paint it in a controlled enviornment.
