Im trying to remove my crank pulley and wanted to know if it is a reverse bolt or not before I go and over torque it.

righty tighty, lefty loosy on the 4.6L (except supercharger pulley on 2003/2004 cobra. than its reverse threads, BUT the crank pulley is still righty-tighty on the 03/04 engine) . .. . .. .

WUT?

DO NOT

Forget to remove the washer from behind the bolt.
Otherwise, when you use the three-bolt puller, the pulley will never come off.

if yer installin underdrive pullies, best advice I can give is keep your stockers in a safe place. Most of the people I know swap back to the stock pullies later on when installing heads/cam or putting some real hp into the motor and are more concerned with everything being cooled properly then the 3 hp they claim. I never noticed any performance gaines but did see a loss of voltage at night.

still lefty loosy to take it out. and as mentioned above, keep the washer. I might have a spare one kicking around if you lose yours. lol.

also, if you are doing under drive pullies, make sure they are quality ones (as much as i hate Steeda, i suggest their UD pullies)

i had UDs on my Gt and it struggled to cool properly in summer, had no alternator problems in the least, and eventually the crappy junk brand broke on me.

also, do NOT force the bolt in when you start it. if you strip your crank threads, they are a tough fix (ask me how i know. lol.)

edit: also put a dab of silicone sealant on the key-way of the crank pulley when re-assembling.

steeda's are the only legit pullies I'll ever put on my car, no lose in voltage, and significant gain in power that you can feel. It was designed with Ford! WINNNN! WIN!!!!

keep your stock pullies no matter what, like I said never known anyone to keep them for more then a year or two at the VERY most.

I actually just got some stock replacement parts. Im replacing my tensioner as well. I have been trying to do it without a puller lol. 18 mm socket on a 3/8 breaker bar and its pretty tough so I called it a night. Im gonna grab either a puller or use an impact gun tommorow.

You do know that you have to take that bolt and washer out, and then use the puller to pull the balancer off of the crank, right? Just in case the puller doesn't have the right thread bolts, I used the ones that bolt the tensioner to the timing cover.

If you can't get your friend's, most parts stores will lend you one with a deposit. I bought a cheap one at advance for like $12.00. It didn't have the right bolts to bolt to the balance, had to use the tensioner bolts.

lol, we got a harmonic balancer puller from a yard sale one time for a dollar. Snap-on :)

I would probably change the crank seal while I'm there.
