Anybody have tips on getting cross threaded harmonic balancer bolt out? Turns out that is the reason I am throwing belts like crazy. Already have the impact on it and have tried the cranking method as well.

what makes you think it's cross threaded. mine was an sob to break loose too. i ended up using a huge pair of channel locks to grip the HB and allow it to rotate till it contacted something solid (alternator) then use a 30" breaker bar. worked like butter.

How the hell does someone cross-thread a balancer bolt? That thing is huge, and fine-thread.

Anyway, is it just stuck? Like the impact set on reverse won't take it out?

the previous owner of my car did it... we pulled the threads right out... ended up drilling out the crank, then helicoiling the damn thing.

$90.00 helicoil kit.
$15.00 crank bolt
$30.00 air-driven drill
$90.00 air driven impact wrench
$120.00 pulley from steeda
$20.00 in anti-freeze
$1.00 in distilled water

boo!

well, i needed the tools anyways.. lol... easily said by al you pro-car-worker guys who already have all their tools. this was my first impact gun...

plus its totally different when its your only car... a 1 day helicoil project is worth the money compared to a 2 week motor swap.....

That's okay, it takes me two years to do a motor swap because I'm anal as hell and end up replacing/polishing/powdercoating/cleaning every single part that goes back on the car.

lmao. thats EXACTLY how i am. thats why im jsut gunna put juice to my current motor instead of a PI motor swap. polishing some seliniods is a lot easier than re-painting my engine bay (which i know ill do if i pull hte motor out. lol)

I pulled my motor because it was trashed. I was going to just rebuild the bottom end and put it back in.

I've rebuilt the bottom end, powdercoated EVERY SINGLE PART of the motor, replaced EVERY FASTENER with 12 point ARP bolts, installed tubular front suspension, Cobra brakes, all new lines/master cylinder, torn the interior out, rebuilt the A/C box, painted the dash black, bought new seats, new carpet, etc...

All because my motor died.

im the EXACT same way. lol

my drivers side ball joint was squeeking (or maybe it wasnt... either way there was a strange sound coming from my drivers side suspension and i assumed it was the ball joint and decieded not to drive it untill i "fixed" it.)

drivers side ball joint: $100.00
cost to take out old ball joint and put in new one: $40.00

total cost to fix problem: $140.00

OR

control arm from junk yard: $25.00

my solution:
FRPP cobra A-arms
prothyne bushing kit all around
solid motor mounts
99 cobra steering rack
MM solid steering shaft
BBK Gripp springs all around
tokico shocks and struts
ACDelco quad shocks
drilled and slotted roters up front
new brake pads up front
new tires all around (since i was getting an alignment anyways..)
bump stop kit
MM caster camber plates

and while i was there... i might as well:
exhaust manifold gaskets
oil change
tranny flush
diffy fluid change
diffy cover swap
spark plugs
wires
coil packs

...
lol. yea.. here i am $2,000.00 poorer due to a bad ball joint. >.< :p

lol. yea we are... now my motor ticks (long story, its external... part of the harmonic balancer bolt problem) so... that bugs the hell out of me... if we cant muffle the tick somehow... im gunna PI swap it.. and who KNOWS how much that will cost... "well, im here... might as well put in a tubular k member." lol.

the SUV gets the garage?

?

the car that was DESIGNED to drive off a cliff gets the nice safe garage?

the car that was designed to drive through a river gets the garage?

the car that maintains its resale value like a rock in water gets the garage?

wha?

It's my parents SUV(2008 Mazda Tribute). She gets really mad if my car is in there and her suv has to sit outside. Besides, the engine hoist is above it in the garage...
