A custom cam is NOTHING!!!! Like an off the shelf cam. I just had an FTI Camshaft installed which was ground by Ed Curtis. A custom ground cam can be made specific for your application and what you want the cam to do. My off the shelf cam sucked, the car would stall and stutter and not idle at all. This cam I have in there now is awesome, it has not stalled once and it runs so much better. The power band for a custom cam is much better then a shelf cam. Shelf cams are based on RPM's for where their power is delivered and if your combo is not in sync w/ that it leaves power and drive ability on the table. A custom cam is made specific for your mods and what you want out of the car. I would recommend two people. The first link is who I went through and I am very very happy w/ his work. The camshaft is awesome!!!

Custom cams often require a valve spring kit upgrade depends upon your application and what you want out of the grind. Yes they are more expensive but they will give you what off the shelf cams wont. What is your main reason for wanting a custom grind cam? Be sure to read the Q&A section in the first link regarding off the shelf VS Custom Cams

You can call Comp directly if you want to. For that matter, Comp doesn't actually grind cams, and you can call the real cam grinder's and cut out two middle men.

But I would assume you mean you want a custom spec'd cam, a service offered by those mentioned above.

Ok I'll give you that :)

It all depends on the cam as well. The cam I took out was a Crower 15512 and costs $357 on www.summitracing.com but my custom grind camshaft from Ed Curtis was $325 + the valve spring kit upgrade. But you are aright most off the shelf cams are cheaper, usually below $200 but what they offer you is nothing compared to what you get from the custom route.

What are the spec's on your custom cam and what is your set-up? Engine, trans, rear gear?

Thanks,
Steve

I'll PM you the specs its not something that Id post in the open fourm just b/c custom grounds specs are often not pubicly posted out of respect to the cam maker.

I have a 351W w/ the mods in my sig. Tremec 3550 transmission and 3.73 gears

FTI makes a seriously nice cam. I had a trick flow stage two with my tfs twisted wedges and my street heat that are both ported. I gained 25 rwhp and a fucking stock like driveabilty and a lopey idle with mr. curtis' cam. But you have to weigh wha your combo has. You may feel the need later to do some port work later on and that would change your cam needs. I got my head flow tested and sent him all the flow numbers and he matched the cam specs to that. He'll try to get as much info from you as possible. The more you can give him the better. You have an auto right? well if you are planning to install a stall I would ask him what he would recommend with the cam he grinds you.
