Okay my searching has lead nowhere. So I'm asking.

After doing some free weight reduction...I seem to have deleted my exhaust mounts for the tips.
Which got me measuring and debating side exhaust.

Now I've read the Roush and such kits can cause a loss due to the extreme bends.

But what of a 90* past the mufflers?
I'm thinking of welding the magnapack or m80s directly to the H pipe, then out to the sides.

Anyone know?
If so, I may try a more progressive angle and have the tips slanted/angled towards the rear rather than lined up along the body.

Please advise.

Thanks!!

Oh I read those threads.
I saw the 90* build.
But no mention of any adverse effects.
I was looking at the spintech setup, and those U turns just scream losses.

I know about SFC issues and such.
Like I said I read everything I found here. But nothing of loss up top or down low.
Now if it's only a few who cares. But a 10 or so peak loss is bad.
Down low can be mitigated with the 3.90s

people do not put side exhaust on for the performance gain. That is one of those few engine mods done for the look then the function. spintech makes sub frame connectors for side exhaust.

Yeah, no argument there.
I'm just debating if I want to dab a side, or new hangers for the rear.
I don't think there's much to mount to anymore
Which is the only reason I began looking into it.

Hmmm guess I'll hold off on the noise makers til I can figure it out.

A gain isn't expected.
But a loss is not acceptable

By the time the factory pipes make almost a 180 over the rear axle and through all that extra pipe I'd say a 90 sweep isn't restricting much turning out the sides. Turndowns make a 90 straight off of the muffler and I've never heard of the many racecar's out there losing anything from putting turndowns on.

Look at mine and youl see the same 90's to my sides and I can tell you mine screams and flows very well

I was thinking along those lines.
Between the smaller piping, flat spots and the over axle...
Plus irs cobras have what look like twin 90s..
So I was figuring a mandrel bent
2.5 inch pipe, 90* wouldn't kill it.. dumps don't.
I think I've seen pictures of yours on the threads here.

But wanted to ask, like I said I'm basing this off stock exhaust, pictures of the zig zag kits, and the pictures of 90* after the mufflers.
But always best to ask in case someone knew.

Thanks, I think you helped me settle.
Worst case, I can just cut the bends, buy tailpipe and fab a hanger from something now that I don't have read supports.

And theirs options with side exhaust mufflers. These are mufflers with entrance and exit on the same end. Mufflers located at the original spot and the exits lead to sides.

To me this was always a horrible design. The fact that it makes a tight 180 inside of the muffler then the crimped down section in the middle of another bend just screams restrictive. I'm not saying that he single 90 like mine and others is perfect but it's definitely a lot simpler.

the spot its cripmed is just to clear the sub frame connectors and is barely even pressed.

Yeah but it's still making a 180 right before like a 120...........that's a lot of quick tight turns in a very short period. Has to make for some restriction.

Not sure if you've seen mine but it'll give you some ideas. I have subframes also and so I took this into account. I wanted the freest flowing exhaust I could get. I think you'll see I achieved the side exhaust look with a non restrictive flow. Starts on post #77. It's not mentioned in that section but I'm using the Magnaflow 4" race mufflers. I bolted them right after the long tubes. The rest of the pipes I fabbed up using mostly Ebay and autoparts store tubing.

Mine makes a u turn and then a 90° to the sides. It goes back towards the axle though so i can still fit my sfcs on. Just need to get around to getting them installed ...
