ive heard two differant things..

1) the less back pressure/ the better.

2) our engines need back pressure.

what is true?

I read some dude gained 22 whp and 8 tq with cut outs on a near stock 99 gt.

Anyone tried this?>

wonder if its worth a try>?

Its only for sound, and actually will lose power....

but do you guys have any proof to this?

it makes sense that cut outs would produce more power..

engines are basically big air pumps and the object is to get more air in and more exhaust out.

I just dont think its possible to make less horsepower with cut outs...there would have to be some kind of gains at higher RPM's with no backpressure.

cutouts are cool, but only if you're car is being made a sleeper. it becomes dumb when you have loud exhaust and then cutouts...it's not like you were hiding anything anyway

if thats the reason for cutouts then no man, the biggest restriction is the midpipes, catbacks arent that restrictive. best muff will prolly net you 4 HP if your lucky. plus just find a clip of a stock midpipe gt with LM1s wand you will see they dont sound so great, and thats basically what you would have

ran a 9.49 1/8th

went back w/ mufflers on and ran a 9.27

different weather, barameter could have been different... you had more practice... yada yada yada... lots of explanations. the trueth is that the cat back is only for sound.

leave the cut outs to the camaroes lol. everyone around here has them. But yea don't even think about that crap unless your running a stock mid and cat back and then place it before the first cat which isn't gonna happen lol

You don't need backpressure, you need scavenging. Backpressure is an inefficient way to get scavenging. UNless you are running cutout's in front of the lame ass factory Hpipe, you wouldn't gain anything worthwhile from it.
