Ok I can't decide what to do when I'm 18, which is in a couple of months. I have a 1994 5.0 GT..

Idea #1-

Keep the 5.0 and add intake and heads(gt40 or twisted wedge) upgrade rear end to 3.73's w/t-lock and do exterior work on her.

Idea #2-

Sell the 5.0 for around 2500$ and put a down payment on a 1999-04 Mustang GT. I love the styling of the 99-04's so thats one of the major reasons I don't want the 94.

What would be better for speed and potential, and just a generally better idea all around?

That's really a matter of preference. Go with the car you desire most, if you have the means. As far as speed goes, you can make most any engine go fast.

Here I am 31 years old, looking back at myself at 18. I had a similar decision to make, I bought the newer car. However I missed out on so much, becuase I always has to work to pay my car note, and had no money for mods. I say keep the car you have, mod it as you have money. Dont take on a car payment as such a young age, and enjoy what you have.... just my 2cents.

well..as far as speed the 99-04 is faster stock...but the 5.0 is realy easy to make fast..you could make it a lot faster than the newer stangs with some mods. Its cheap to make fast too..

I say keep the 5.0 and mod it..youll love it

I like the later shape, but i prefer the old windsor motor, its more forgiving if you get it wrong, or it goes wrong.
They rattle when something needs looking at, newer motors tend to just blow up.
If its just a daily driver, the newer car will have its advantages, but if you own your current car, there's a lot of fun [and grief sometimes :) ] in modifying your old car and saying "I did that". :thumb:

im almost on the same situation you are i have a 94 gt too,i want a 03-04 cobra but insurance will be too high so i just keep my 5.0,if your car is paid for why go into a car payment, you are only 18 your insurance on the 99+ will be a little too high,
CAR PAYMENT+INSURANCE :nonono:
i got new supension eibach lower springs,mm cc plates, strange 10 way shocks-struts,new saleen rims all this on two weeks because i have no car payment ,all the money you make can keep it on your pocket, and not on car payment+insurance, say no to car payment :bunny3:

i think you should save and mod the 5.0, like they said, if u are already out of a payment, dont get back in one. besides you can make a 5.0 fast for cheap, maybe you should look into a blower to change your mind so you dont wish to sell it :dancing6:.

besides our body lines are better and pick up more bishes :rockyou:
