I think your talking about the exciter ring that is internal in the diff

There is 2 type
So, is the exciter ring part of the ABS stuff or spedo?
Do ALL 99-04 diffs have the exciter ring?
Im not saying mine doesn't have it, I just don't remember seeing one.

Update.
After a week of searching, good 8.8 donor just isn't available. Ones in yards are either high mile or cover off pieces missing. Ford put 8.8's on a bunch of cars, but I don't trust anything but a mustang axle to bolt right in.
One good 8.8 donor that was not too far away had a 3.27 ratio.
I've finally figured out that the gear size I need is a 3.45 ratio, so it's looking like a rebuild is in the plan instead of swap.

"I only suggest this because it seems to be about the same effort as throwing another old 7.5" back there with the added benefit of actually being able to find parts for it." (emphasis mine)

I am hearing this about parts more and more and even my nearest Ford dealership lists a LOT of parts as 'obsolete'.

Pic degraded in transfer, but this shows the tempered bluing on the teeth of the worn spiders.
Fortunately, the bluing does a nice job of showing the wear and contact pattern.

The exciter rings are part of speed
And will only come on the axels without positive traction
From what I have seen

Great suggestions, thanks guys!
Man, I've learned a metric ton of stuff about differentials in the last week!
Although, I hadn't heard of a mini spool until now.

I love learning, it's just much more enjoyable when I'm not pressed for time.
You guys are really helpful, so thanks for your input!

So, I'm learning about mini spools tonight.
Mini spools cost the same (actually a little less) as the spider gear kit.

The direction of study tonight is how spools differ from posi or other lock types and advantages over spiders.

Are there any pros and cons about spools that you would deem notable to share?
Good or bad experiences, preferences or warnings?

They LOOK like they'd be easier to install actually....
...but I'm still learning.

Yeah I was pretty much only joking. D't use a spool on the street. The spool will make both tires spin at the exact same speed, even when cornering etc.
It's meant for pretty much a drag only car.

I didn't know you were joking.
I spent hours last night learning about different spools and which spool might be right for me before deciding I didn't want chirp or tire wear........

Hey guys, quick update and a question...

The donor axle was questionable so I decided to rebuild and go one gear higher to compensate for the sluggishness with my larger wheels.

It's about back together for a test, but when I went to get outer axle bearings and seals, they tried to sell me an Axle Repair Bearing.

It's a bearing race with the seal built in.

Does anyone have any experience with these?

I'd appreciate any input.

It isn’t really a “repair” bearing. The bearing is offset so that the bearing no longer rides on the worn surface but adjacent to it. The axle still remains damaged where the old bearing wore and thus remains weaker at that stress point. Check how much the ”repair” bearings cost versus the cost of a pair of new axles, bearings, and seals. I personally would spend a few more dollars on new axles and not have to worry about using old damaged axles. Take a good look at the wear where the old bearings ride.

Thank you very much. Yeah, I'm going to stick with regular bearings and seals. My axle is in fair shape and the outer bearings were worn but not damaged. It was the driver side bearing close to the spider gears that spun a roller out of the race and disintegrated.

Thanks for the info Adfalenski !
