Well... .. . I bought new pulleys to replace my crappy piggy-back style from the previous owner..... always thought steeda had the highest quality UDs from what i read on their website, and then I ask all of you and you all agree that they are about the best money can buy when it comes to under drive pullies on an SN95.

well, i bought some and I got them today and im not impressed at all..

heres a pic from the website... notice the large (waterpump) pulley...

<img src="http://www.steeda.com/images/underdrive46_md.jpg">

well, turns out that pulley is hollow... . . i dont know if its good or not to make it light weight, but its litterally a bowl with holes drilled in it... .. .. not exactly what i was expecting when my current crappy piggy back set is machined aluminum and shinny and pretty and is definantly not a bowl with holes drilled in it.... this thing is a chunk of steal painted black..... . .. . . boo.....

i dono... they may be the best that I can get for performance, but when i drop $200.00 on something i hope for something a little more appealing thats all..

its like buying a hooker and getting an ugly one.... yea, she'll get the job done, but your ashamed to brag to your friends about it.... actually... that's an amazingly accurate annolgy..... .. . .. . except this ugly hooker was the most expensive one too... . ... yea... thats about right...

anyways, thanks for listening to my rant! :)

P.S. Steeda's customer service was "D+" service, at best...

It's not about them being all ''shiny'' and the ''bling'' factor... Steeda's crank pulley is SFI spec

It's just because it has to go around the end of the water pump, I bought mine from trick flow and it was the same way

I would hope the water pump pulley is "Hollow" why would you want to add reciprocating mass/weight. UDP are good for freeing up "maybe" 8hp and making a solid WP pulley would be silly.

I also want to make sure that you know that I told you they are a waist of money and the only way you/anyone should buy them is if they are used and you get a good deal (about 100$ or less).

Steeda IS the best so you can imagine what the other brands would be like. Consider yourself lucky, you got exactly what you paid for.

i hate you.... lol. :p

also, the crank pulley is very nice... i wish it was a different color, such as red or ... not black, but whatever the crank is top notch... ... . the water pump pulley.... boo!....

what pisses me off most about steeda is their workers... ive never once had a pleasant experience with them... not 1 time... .. . .

and the fact of the matter is, that i NEEDED to replace my pulleys... we took my belt off and my crank shaft pulley would wiggle back and forth.. as soon as i find a camera ill take a pic for you guys...

finally:

SFI is the safety institute that tests car parts, building parts, etc. etc. to make sure they meet standards... if you look on the back side of an electronic of some kind, such as a toaster youll see the logo for "UL" ... same thing, except for electronics... SFI approved pullies, bell housings, etc. are race-ready. meaning they stand up to certain standards (high standards) and when they do fail, they fail in a safe way... for example a SFI approved bell housing, when it fails, is supposed to crunch like a pop can instead of exploding into shrapenal (sp?)

i needed a new pulley anyways... lol. might as well upgrade. 2HP is 2HP... ($100.00 a HP isnt a great deal, but when i fix my car, i upgrade it... it cost me $2,000 in suspension parts for fix my squeeky ball joint. lol) honestly I expected better for the price (hence me making the thread.) Im almost done with getting my car to the point I want it this summer... I want to put in a T56, change the intake, change the exhaust, change the strut tower and ill drive it till it breaks down. lol. getting rid of the piggy back pullies was on the top of the list anyways. because ive heard many horror stories about them.

i just hate my cerial bowl water pump pully and steeda customer service. thats all... :)

ill post pics when they are all installed... maybe ill feel better about them after the install... perhaps since they are a quality product it might fix my overheating problem in the summer time..

$200 for ud's? I'll stick w/ my pushrod motors!

$100-$130 depending on what brand you get, a few are a little more like March. I just got the aluminum BBK's for $120

+1 i boycotted them because they treated me so poorly when i had problems with their oil seperator PCV unit... this is the chance i gave them to win back my business and tehy didnt do it.. i got the UDs, clutch cable and quadrant, and a bad attitude from them... i dont think there's anything else they can offer me...

^ I'm with ya on that. Over the years though, of purchasing parts for all the muscle cars I've owned, I've decided that "cheap parts" to me are the high $/quality parts on sale. You still get what you pay for.

My pulley looks exactly the same, and yea... pushrod ftw... I love cheap parts.

don't rub it in! lol Make over 600 with a stock block then you'll see how cheap the parts get, lol.

I want to build my wife a pushrod motor but she wants a modular, actually she wants a New Edge and could care less about the engine. lol

i looked at ebay for UDs... but last time i got parts off ebay it didnt go to well... im nervous about gettin headlights from ebay! lol... ive learned over time that quality can save you money in the long run...

.. as for cheep UDs, yea... im sure your cheep ones look exactly the same because these are clearly cheep... I'm sure steeda makes a pretty penny off these... $1.00 to make, $80.00 to sell..... BUT the crank pulley IS very high quality. Timing marks, SFI approved, black powder coated, i like the crank pulley... but my cerial bowl of a water pump pully ... boo.....

as for buying a pushrod... i fell in love with this car the minute i saw it... it could have had a I-4 motor for all i cared... its dead sexy... V8, V6, I4, V10... whatever.... its sex on wheels....

as for your wife wanting a new edge, id get her a 99 V6 and drop in something insane... 400+ cubic inches of crazy... thats what im talkin' bout ;-)

You might regret the Steeda clutch cable too...mine lasted a year or so & got so stiff it was difficulr to drive the car! Everyone hated it!..Changed back to OEM & silky smooth again...only OEM seem to be quality cables.

Oh I completely agree. My car doesn't have a UPR product on it anywhere, nor any other "cheap" company products. I'm a big fan of you get what you pay for, but I also think if you're good with a classifieds section or resourceful, you can get what you pay for a lot cheaper. Haha.

The only UPR products I have is the Blue Thunder shifter/knob and the CAI (MAC I think). Have had no issues at all there.
