Do I need a new CCRM????

I just bought a 94 mustang Gt with 171,000 miles on it. Got a sweet deal, very cheap. Car seemed to run good when I test droved it..... boy I was wrong. I've had it for about a month, and so far I rebuild the trany(AODE). I replaced the TPS sensor and some other small repairs.

Last week i experienced some colling issues. Car started to overheat while I was driving back home. Gauge meter was on top of the red line"H", so I pulled over. I did my research about these 94/95 sn95's and found several helpful leads.

I learned these were know to have several cooling issues. Also found out that the temp gauge is know to go bad. Here's what I done so far...

Replaced the thermostat (192F)
Burped the cooling system 4 times (started car with heater on high)
Flushed the radiator
Replaced the cooling temp sensor
Full tune-up(cap, rotor, plugs, wires ext.)

My problem is the fan won't come on at high temps nor when the A/C is on. Will this be the reason for the car to over heat?

Here is the funny part Monday, when I first replaced the thermostat, I drove it for about 10 miles(street) with not problems, no over heating. Today I went to pick up the old lady and car started to overheat, so I turned the heater full blast. Needle managed to stay away form "H" but it was very close. When I got home I opened the hood and the fan was smoking and coolant was poring out of the reservoir tank.

I read somewhere here if you unplug the cooling temp sensor and start the car, the fan should start running and you also get a check engine light. Well I did that and fan was still not running, check engine light did come on.

Need help guys what do you think is my problem? Do I need a new CCRM? Any ideas?

first off check and see if your fan spins by hand if so,check your fan plug, they are notorious for shorting out..the end of the plug will be burnt. if its burnt check the fuse too, your going to have to splice in a new pig tail if its burnt

Fan does spin by hand and all fuses seem to be okay. I will check the plug tomorrow in the day light..... times like these I wish I had a garage to work on my junk.

I troubleshot my cobra by this website right here... Although on my car my lowspeed fan does not spin when its supposed to.

In essence what you're gonna do to check the wiring/fan is take out your ccrm and in the harness plug itself take you a jumper and jump it from the 12VDC source on the harness connecter and the fan prongs... It should ahve 2 prongs, 2 are for your high fan and 2 are for your low fan. Just run your jumper across them and you will be by passing your CCRM(its just 1 big relay box anyway) and that will tell you whats wrong.

also if you pull the codes manually by shorting the OBD1 connector under the hood the fan should come on low for a couple of secs then on high for a couple of secs. I also just had to replace my fan motor because the bearing went out but it still gets pretty warm when I drive in traffic even though the fan comes on low speed. so a radiator change or cleaning in in the near future. hope this helps

170,000 miles is a lot of miles on a car. Basically a car is done with this many miles if it is not all highway miles. Expect to need to fix a lot more. This is why the car was so cheap, it is done.

Good suggestions on how to look into your fan. You should also read up a lot more about your car. It looks like you have ambition to learn about it and have done some research already. Learning more will save you money and time in trouble shooting problems with your car. Observing that the fan was not coming on when it is supposed to would have given you a place to start fixing the problem sooner and saved on everything that you did that did not fix the problem, though it may have needed those things anyways because of age and mileage.

If you drive on the highway your fan will not need to come on as enough air is being forced through the radiator already. If you do stop and go city driving then it will heat up and the fan will be needed to cool the radiator.

Learn how to use a volt/ohm meter. It is your eyes into your electrical system. It will enable you to test circuits and parts before you go aimlessly changing parts that are good and wasting money and time.

Problem fixed.... fan motor was blown out with the plug and I also replaced the CCRM. Picked up a used one off another board. No more heating problems.

For those who helped with advise..... Thank you for your help.
