I have to agree. We have had the car since it was new and was the first one to drive it off the lot. I have never had an issue while turning on the defroster, its a 302 hell I don't notice much of a difference with the ac on.

Not runnin underdrive pullies are ya? I think those are the single worst thing a person can put on their car. The only time I noticed it running differently was with those on and once they went back to stock it was not an issue.

You will notice when the AC Compressor kicks on (which it will on defrost), however I don't think it would be obvious enough to say you 'lost power'.
