I figure my car could use a solid new heart and was thinking of this. my goal is only a low 12 sec car just to pull on any racers that get in my way from my area. would this be a good foundation for a 12 sec stang?

http://www.coasthigh.com/P2305F-GT-F306-SB-p/p2305f-gt-f306-sb.htm

I
m planning on a custom cam, edelbrock rpm 2 intake, and either a set of ported iron heads or budget aluminum heads if my budget by the time i get to the heads doesnt let me get AFR 185s :/, and of course a dry shot of nitrous. maybe 100 shot doesnt matter to me i can always up it if need be...

I'd build a 331/347 for the price you'll spend on a 306. Heads will cost more but will net a lot more power as well. I know you dont want to mess with boost, but I would look into a reman shortblock from LMR and a used Vortech V3 kit. You'll have the power at your fingertips unlike the boost system where you need to worry about an empty bottle

and about 300 hp right with the shortblock all stock and a turbo well to the crank at least? you think a new LMR shortblock will hold the boost for a good period of time with the stock internals and a good tune to keep everything running properly? any fuel upgrades i would need or can i survive with the stock fuel stock?

I would mess with boost...installing a vortech kit is like a few hours..its so simple.

You will end up spending bank on nitrous in the long run if you keep re filling the bottle.

The S-trim should get you at around 300rwhp with a completely stock engine. If you want more boost all it takes is a pulley swap. If the engine is going to stay stock then the Vortech FMU and an in-tank 255lph pump will suffice. As you start modding the engine you will need to upgrade Maf and injectors.

I didnt know installing a turbo was a few hour thing. i thought it was at least half a day or something but anyways i dont know how to multiquote and yah the FMU usually comes standard in the kits. boost it is. install it and never have to worry about it. it will always be there and ready to spool :)

I too have been weighing the options between the two but I think I am going to go with the bottle eventually myself. I do not need the extra hp 90% of the time and would not use it all that often but it would be nice/fun to know its there.

With a heads cam intake sn95 you should be able to run 12's so with nos if you can't you might want to hire a new driver

Just to clear things up, the Vortech is a Supercharger not a turbo, and no a turbo is not a day install, the Vortech is

ok sorry i just refer to them as turbo but i know its belt driven. everything that doesnt sit on top of the engine with a whine when you rev is a turbo to me just a general category i guess

lol, I think I could do it in an hour WITH tapping the oil pan..

Seriously, I can pull my vortech bracket with the unit attached from the car in 20 minutes now since ive had it on and off so many damn times.

Im just emphasizing how easy a vortech kit is to install but I swear any monkey could throw a non IC vortech v3 setup on a car in under an hour, ok maybe 2. :)

But yea, vortech, procharger, novi, powerdyne, they are all basically belt driven turbos you could say.

No need to tap with the V3, my buddy and I installed one on his 94 in 2 hours with air tools, only thing that held us up was the FMU because we had trouble with a fuel line
