I read somewhere that putting an cone air filter directly in front of the MAS will cause a lean condition. I believe they were referring to a foxbody car in the article [that im trying to find, i believe it was in 5.0 Mustang when they installed the AFM Quick Kit 1 on that red LX] and was curious if that applies to my '95 GT.

I wouldn't think so, I mean, how many CAI are out there for the 5.0L that are basically that.

Actually it will and does. Did it to my 92. The main issue is the fact how much the air moves in and out of the filter then goes directly into the MAF. The angle of entry is much different then factory

Depends upon the car. All of these cars have different tendencies. You may experience one thing, i may experience another. But if its lean then you'll know.

So what I'm considering doing is reclocking the MAS 90 degrees [clockwise] to try and smoothe out the air flow somewhat. I'm sure this will go away once the tune is finalized. if not, i'll buy something else. as for now I have "frankenCAI" LOL

right on, since i'm still breathing thru the stock Tbody, MAS and intake. I need to upgrade though, I added a longblock with hogged [LOL] e7 heads and an E cam. Nonetheless, i need to open the intake tract up some more if I ever plan on seeing low 13s

when i got lean codes it was due to a dirty maf. and that came from the oil in the K&N style filter being deposited on the sensor.

just leave the small screen in the MAF< and you will be fine. the screen straigtens the air going in to the sensor so it can get an accurate measurement of the air going into it. The MAF is there to accomidate small changes in airflow. (really, how many spelling errors can I make!!)
