Engine Swap

Its coming but I don't know which way to go. I could go with a 4.3 stroker from super six motorsports for 8k +/- or I could go with the newer V6 from a junkyard at a significantly cheaper price. Question will the new V6s (305hp) require new ecu and wiring harness? And will they hold up to a pro charger?

Peace

THE NEWER MOTORS (sorry for the caps, work computer) can most certainly handle boost. I assume you're talking about the newer 3.7 motors? You would have to upgrade the ecu and engine harness to run it. That would be an interesting swap.

the new motor is a beast but its very computer heavy.
along with all the normal wiring nightmares you also gotta look at your steering pump stuff as its way different. and you will need one hell of a tuner to remove alot of features the new car looks for. security system, egr, etc.
either way i think you will be in it money wise for about the same price.
American Muscle has done a newer v6 build and it ran 11's easy plus it was a full weight car! you could do high 10's and have a mean DD thats ignored by most as a threat because its a "v6"

spank a vette and drive by the gas station.. mpgs are just as cool when you hella fast

if you dive into this i would be watching your build thread like a hawk. with the new ecoboost crate motors coming soon id love to see what it takes to get these new ones all bolted and wired up.

I cant imagine it being a swap worth doing monetarily, when for a lot less you can build your V6 fully forged at a local machine shop, and throw a blower on it, and proceed to molest.

I would think acquiring the drivetrain from a wreck could be done at a reasonable price but I agree the cost (and lack of patience) could start skyrocketing with the installation or space modifications required to fit the drivetrain in that chassis plus the myriad of bits and pieces, wiring and troubleshooting that would probably be necessary. But I agree with White95 that it would be an interesting swap.

It would be an interesting swap!

IMO not worth doing...

If you're going to go through the trouble do the coyote swap! Thats my plan when my 4.2v6 m112 supercharged goes.
Coyote is an easy 400hp and there's kits that make the swap smooth.

I'd be interested in a ecoboost swap if you really want something different.

Like monkey said the 3.8/4.2 is cheaper than you think... My 4.2 swap (98 F-150) with blower was less than the 8k SSM stroker. Mind you I did all the work myself.

If you really do have the funds and the resources, I say go for it. I'd be interested to see how easy (or hard) it all fits. I want to try something like that in the future myself. Though realistically your easiest option out of the two is the SSM engine. But I swear if I get rich that'll be the firs thing I do....

Even a junkyard 3.7L is going to cost more than your run of the mill well built 4.2L pushrod. Then factory in custom fabrication of a way to mount it to your K member, hacking up wiring harnesses to get it to run. Then you gotta figure out trans/mounting, drive shaft, dash cluster etc...

All for less power than you could have by tossing a blower on the stock 3.8L.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see someone swap a new 3.7L into an SN95, but it will take a lot of knowledge of BOTH cars, a lot of skill fabricating parts and a lot of time/money.
