Is it possible to remove the lights from the back of the factory radio and replace with the blues LEDs like you would use in the gauge cluster and HVAC?

Yes, but its a pain because they are not just regular bulbs, they are tiny ones soldered onto to board.

yes it can be done, might not be all that bad. If I remember correctly the faceplate is held on by a couple of screws on the side. I pulled the face off of mine so that I could use it as a dummy display if I do not like the neighborhood I was parking in. With some help from my brother, I modified the sticker on the cassette door to add a little attitude. The security led is actually mounted behind it so that the F-off lights up with the alarm.

Pull the deck out and the faceplate off and it might not be that hard. The buttons and everything on the face are locked in so they wll not go across your floow like skittles. You might be able to get the job done with some blue plastic(like with the clocks), at least the display could be done this way.
