well, I bit the bullet (as they say) .......... the joker that had the car before me must have only cared about pimpin, 'cause he sure as hell didn't know how to take care of this car.
all in all I have replaced the clutch ..... the trans is out of a 99 GT (had to swap the tailshaft housing and speedo p/u) ....... and now I find out that the grease in the rear end has depleted to nothing.

I am rebuilding the whole 3rd member. Not taking any shortcuts.

Parts list as follows:

FRPP 3.73 gearswap kit from 5.0 Resto (gear set, shims, bushings, seals, some bearings, grease, trac-lok additive)
FRPP carbon Trac-Lok rebuild kit
New OEM spider gear set
ALL new bearings, seals, pinion yoke, u-joints, and balanced drive shaft.

oh yea .......... the other stuff that is going in at the same time ...........

Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs (1.5 - 2" drop)
Energy Susp. spring isolators (all 4 corners)
Mustang Wheel Spacers 1" aluminum kit (rear only)

The car will have undergone major transformation as of Labor Day ............ gonna look and feel like a totally different car baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

looks good.. my only suggestion would be to go with some steeper gears, but eh, that IMHO

I LOVE my 4.10s but you shift more. 3.73s will be hella better than stock. You might wanna invest in a Speed Cal to. Your speedo is gonna be off.

Speed cal is not needed, just change the speedo gear, at least that is what I did.

No flame intended: the speedo gear is OK but it will not get the accuracy that a SpeedCal will and there is the prospect of shredded gear teeth. I ran a 23-tooth gear for a month while I was waiting for my SpeedCal (etc.) and the teeth were a bit worn when I pulled the gear out. Some people have had good luck with the gears but some have not. I just don't like to have an inaccurate speedo/odo: I want to know how fast I'm going and I don't want "ghost" miles racking up. However, if budget constraints make a speedo gear necessary, then it will work, too.

Very nice, you'll love them... but maybe think about 4.10's ???

Me and the wifey were cruisin last night. I was sitting at a dead stand still at a red light ,and I saw a Vette comin up on my passenger side. He hadnt come to a complete stop ,he was maybe rollin at about 20mph. Well as soon as the light turned green we both floored it. Remember I was stopped and he wasn't . My Stang jumped so hard that my cell phone flew outta my center compartment under the radio and ended up behind the passenger seat, lol.

Anyways we were side by side but I started pullin ahead of him once I got into 3rd. It was a LTI. Not bad for a 97GT.

I got a speedcal, then I had to get a extended range speedcal when I got my T56, kinda pissed me off. I would recomend you go straight to the extended range to begin with.

The thing is I have always used a speed gear and never had any problems, I had the stock 2.73's, 3.73's, 4.10's and when I get home I'm putting 3.55's in.

well, I have a 23 tooth gear I was sold for 3:73s if anyone wants it. I bought the gear, then had to get the EXT because I put a late model t45 in.

No problem with a speedo gear (lots of people use them) but they won't get the accuracy or the durability that a SpeedCal will. I'm a little neurotic so I want my speedo/odo to be accurate. You might have some better luck with a speedo gear for the 3.55's -- there will be fewer teeth on the gear and they won't be as thin as, say, a gear for 3.73's or 4.10's. For the 3.55's, give a gear a try and see if you like the results. If you don't get the accuracy you want, the gear has only cost you twenty bucks.

I infer from your post ("when I get home") that your in the military. If you are, thanks for your service and stay safe, wherever you happen to be. You guys are the real heroes in this world, not the overpriced sports stars or Hollywood dips. :thumb:
