the clutch in my 88 just went out so ima install a king cobra clutch. any tips on a backyard swap? and what else do i need to go ahead and swap while the tranny is out?

rear main seal. and a torque wrench
And some PB blaster for removing the h/x pipe.
I've done it more than I care to admit. Easy as long as all the bolts come out nice.
1. remove shifter
2. remove h-pipe
3. remove clutch cable
4. drain tranny and remove driveshaft
5. remove starter and all bellhousing bolts
6. put a jack under the tranny and remove trans crossbrace
7. lift front of engine and wiggle the tranny out
Tip, take a SOLO cup and push it on the back of the tranny after you remove the driveshaft. It will help you from not swimming in a puddle of tranny fluid. Unless you just drain the fluid, probably not a bad deal to swap out the fluid anyways. Start at the interior of the car, remove the shifter before you get all nasty and get your interior dirty.
Make sure you jack up the car high enough for the bellhousing to come out. And, be ready to jack up the front of the motor (front pan area, using a block of wood) to lower the rear of the motor/trans for easy removal. Definitely make sure the car is supported right, on a flat surface, and stable. Had a buddy get killed when a car fell on him.
On the clutch itself, hopefully it comes with a good t/o bearing. I'll be doing this same thing soon, my t/o is making noise. It only has like 3000 miles on it. I'll probably go with a Ford Racing or a Centerforce this time instead of a OEM.

use thread sealant on the flywheel bolts. make sure the trans is fully seated before bolting it in.

The fly wheel bolts are torque to yield on the 5.0. Not sure on the clutch bolts.

flywheel bolts are not TTY. I reused mine several times.

Look up how to remove your pilot bearing before doing it... it can be a PITA. I just used the rod end of a tire iron and some bearing grease to get mine out.

i had a ***** of a time removing my pilot bearing this afternoon. The puller I got from advance sucked donkey balls, i went to Autozone and got their puller with the slider hammer and the thing popped out in 2 minutes. Wasted probably an hour using the other puller and got no-fukin-where with it.

dont know, replaced the pilot bearing and it seems to be better. double checked everything and threw everything back in. here's where I'm at now:

Pilot bearing I like to use wet pieces of paper rather then grease lot less messy and works instantly
