Hello everyone! Been reading the boards for some time now and finally decided to post. Just bought a 96 GT about 2 months ago off of craigs list in Las Vegas. Price was $2,400 and it had a few minor problems. Bent rear axle which I have already replaced, and one bad upstream O2 sensor. Not a bad deal if you ask me. Now on the the questions.
Replaced O2 sensor yesterday, cleared codes on the computer and check engine has been gone for about 75 miles, so far so good.
Before I replaced the sensor I ran a snap on scanner on the car to find out which sensor was bad and also check fuel trim, obviously one bad O2 sensor was causing a rich condition and long term fuel trim was very high(dont remember exact number).
Any idea how long it takes for the computer to readjust long term fuel trim back down to normal? Or should i just disconnect the battery and clear it all?
Next question, the guy I bought the car from was basically given the car by a friend that owed him money, and he said the top end of the motor had recently been rebuilt but wasnt sure because it was his friends car so had no idea what exactly had been done. The car has some damn sticker on the top of the windshield that says VIP Custom Motorworks which is apparently a shop here in Vegas. I ran a vacuum test on the car and it pulls around 21 inches at idle and 26 at 2500rpm, seems high to me, which as far as I know is not a bad thing and tells me the motor is very solid. Im just curious if those are normal readings for a stock 4.6 motor or if there is anyway to tell if the heads/cams have been swapped. Basically I wanna know what the hell has been done to the car before I start looking at a P/I swap.
Anyhow, sorry for the long first post and thanks for any help. I enjoy the site and the mass amounts of help and information I have already gleaned from it, keep up the good work!
