At the car show this weekend, there was a Fox Saleen there. Number 7. I was extrmely impressed. As most of you know, Saleen didn't ever make a number 6, soooo, this would have "technically" been the sixth one in the production run.

Anywho, got a couple pics of it.

Maybe you can verify its validity. The owner said it was real when I asked him.

Very cool! Thanks for posting. That's my favorite color combo, white with the blue accents. That appears to be either 87 or 88, the #s are historicaly weird. Sometimes they are not in numeric order, or some #s do not exist. Actualy, it's only #6 that does not exist in any Saleen year. That # is reserved for the fake saleen, so everyone with a fake should be #6. :) Don't know if people actualy do it.

The early #s are usualy race cars, special pace cars, press/magazine cars, and IIRC Tim Allen may have some in that range. Saleen history is very interesting, just looking at production #s the SN95 is some of the rarest Saleen production. Only about 1200 cars from 94-98.

My friend and local mustang club member owns the 05 Saleen press car.

Anyways, back on topic, that fox is clean....

I would have to say the same. Looks legit, I always thought that the 91-93 cars were the lowest production Saleens. A friend of mine has an 89 for sale, 1 or 3 with those options/color......I will have to find out the exact number. I have had my eyes on it for years, and he will sell it to me for a few grand less than what it is worth......If I didnt have a wedding to think about I would jump on it......hell I am still thinking about just getting it.

One question, could you see the screws where the lower air dam meets the factory LX front bumper? One of the sure fire ways to tell and actual 80's fox saleen that is 100% correct from a faleen.

I did not look to be honest. Are you saying you would be able to see or would not be able to on a real one?

I knew Rich would enjoy it, because I believe you had one correct?

Thanks for the extra info Rich!

I had a couple, and had friends with some Fox Saleens.

^When I got it home. PO had a few drinks, lost control, smacked a curb hard enough to break the axle. Found a rear axle from a Lincoln MK?, cleaned it up. Wnated to save it, but the race car took priority when I smashed up my Fox racecar.

^When I sold it to a buddy of mine, he then sold it to my cousin. He is currently doing the bodywork on it. So at least something is happening.

^That was my favorite Mustang I've owned, or at least as much as my SVO. Bought it off ebay in CA, delivered to CO. It was kinda rough, but it would blow the tires loose on demand. And it sounded very good, some Dynomax muffs with off road-h and BBK shortys. Got props all the time, almost every time I drove it. When I put the loud ProCharger on it, it realy got props. But then it got unreliable, and I sold it to build my Fox racecar.

So I'm scared to get another Saleen because I'll probably sell it to go racing again, lol.

On the real ones, they screwed the lower air dam with screws like in the 2nd pic that rich posted. You can see the screws better in the third one. There are some Saleen owners who replaced that with the sincle peice cover that Cervinis sells, however that would be one way to tell. The other way you can tell (but you need to have the hood poped) is by the saleen tag under the hood.....I can remember where this is, I am thinking that it is on the firewall or on the core support....

There are a bunch of oddities on the Saleens that are spot signs of the real deal.

The obvious is decals, badges, and real Saleen wheels. But the early cars have some odds and ends not common.

84-86
LX interior, but with GT seats. This is true in MOST cases, but some are LX seats, and some have GT interiors.
No engine bay plaques on these.
No strut tower bars.
86 had an oddball 3rd brakelight not built into the wing. 87+ were built in.
85/86 had a couple of different bodykits which are signature Saleen, but no bodykit cars do exist.
All Fox Saleens have onionhead shocktower mounts. These came from 84+ SVO Mustangs, and are a sure bet in Saleens, unless a custom CC plate is/was installed.
MOMO steering wheels, mostly 3 spoke, but early 86 and 85s may have a 4 spoke. If owner wanted cruise, factory wheels were used.
Kenwood 2 knob stereos were optional, not all early Saleens got them.
On the map light there is a barrel plug designed for the Escort radar detector which came with the Saleens

87-93
They got cooler interiors than the older cars.
Flo-Fit custom seats matched with Saleen interiors, usualy grey, could be leather on the newer cars.
Recaros, IIRC 90-93, also could be leather, grey or black interiors.
Had SVO 4 wheel disk brakes, but stock GT front control arms. With the wider rear axle they had different offset wheels.16x7 fronts and 16x8 rears.
A lot of different wheels choices from basketweaves to 5 spoke. Speedline 5 lug are the most desirable. Cost of these is thru the roof, if you can find them.
The MOMO went away in 91 with mandated airbags IIRC.
A few cars were built S/C'd from Saleen, but special order only.

Cool history, I know I don't know all of it. Learn something new all the time. I'd like to know some more about SN Saleens.

I always thought that the coolest part of the 87 and up cars interiors was the "saleen" logo was stiched into the door panels with the saleen script in the exterior color. As far as the seats go, at least on the 89 that my friend has, the headrests look like the halo headrests that were in the earlier gt's but with a mesh in the opening. The 89 has the 5 point rims (I think they are the momo/5 lug rims). When I get home today I will see if I have any pics of it.

As far as the SN Saleens......Like I said, let me see what pics I have.....I have another friend who has a new edge vert and the XP8
