Does anyone know if the Ford Racing Throwout Bearing Part Number: M7548A Fits V8 & V6? or just V8s? Every place that sells it just says Ford Racing heavy duty throw out bearing for 1979-2004 Mustangs.

crap......well i already ordered it...... Ive had that famous mustang whining noise and i read about the H/D throwout bearing and couldn't find out if it was for both V6/V8 or just V8. So i ordered it figure it couldn't hurt to buy n see.

Just received the throwout bearing and......well i was comparing the difference between the one in the clutch kit and the H/D bearing and they look the same except for the material its made out of.....It says on the box "79-04 H/D throwout bearing Fits All" guess i will find out if it does or doesn't work when i install it.

Just a heads up, when I was doing my clutch swap I called my local ford dealer to order the HD throwout bearing through FRPP and the parts guy told me it's exactly the same product as the normal TB just wrapped in a FRPP box for 15 dollars more. So I bought the regulat TB.

it may "appear" to be the same, but it could have different lube, different materials, a different seal, etc. etc. etc. all things may not be visible to the naked eye.

edit:

obviously the dimensions and "shape" are going to be the same due to the exact same funcion and application...

No he was the FRPP salesman and he told me it's "exactly" the same product. All they do is repackage it. I asked him are you sure and he said absolutely positively yes. Why would he try to sell me a part that costs less money?

to be your "buddy"... i try to save my customers as much money as possible as well, but all i am saying is he could be wrong. thats all... considering its $15.00 and replacing a TOB is a massive PITA, ill stick with the FRPP HD TOB. to each his own :)

returning this thread from the grave. haha. Installed my new clutch this weekend freaken pain in the a** but well worth it and yes the ford H/D Throwout bearing DOES WORK WITH V6!!!!!!!!! when right on no problem and works like how it should. So anyone with a 6 wants a better/durable Throwout bearing there u go.

Whoever's buying it can decide for themselves (FRPP vs Ford TOB), but the rest of the internet disagrees (including the FRPP/Ford parts sellers).
If there is still doubt you can still get it for the same price. There are websites selling the "FRPP" TOB for the same price as the "Ford" TOB, so you can either buy it from them or pricematch with Summit.
