Thinking about the position of my shifter in my car and how far forward it is....and given that I bought my car used with approximately 150k on the odometer - what are the chances the PO grenaded the transmission and installed a Fox T5 rather than a SN-specific trans? Any way to tell with the trans in the car? Car has a Hurst shifter/handle. Essentially too much free time on my hands and a wandering mind....
EDIT: there is very little clearance between the dash and shifter in 1st
Pics of shifter location for reference

I had a hurst with the hurst handle and with it I was barely banging my knuckles against the dash if I slammed it. I ended up replacing the handle and never had a problem.

Right on. Maybe I just need a different handle and I'm just overthinking things the PO effed up.

if you have a welder or know someone that does, just make enough of a small pie cut in the handle or just take enough out that you can bend it back a few degrees and then weld it back together.

I've got a cheapo from China Freight that would probably be able to do it.
