FRPP/SVO Supercharger Install Question, Low Boost Problem

All of you guys with one of these superchargers get in here ASAP.

Well, I got the blower installed and the car is running and running well. I do have one question.

Where do you put your line for a boost/vac gauge? Or is there anywhere that would give bad boost readings? Or is there some other reason it wouldn't be making enough boost?

I ask because the most boost the gauge has showed so far was about 2 and a half pounds of boost. Granted I haven't really gotten on it too much on account of it pinging (quite audibly), I would have thought that a short amount of time near WOT with the torque converter locked up and the car under a load that it would have read more than 2 or so pounds of boost. I know my grandma's Lightning at about 12 pounds of boost will make almost all of those 12 pounds under similar conditions. Granted the Lighting is making twice the boost I am, it is also a good bit louder at a low RPM under load than mine seems to be.

The supercharger is relatively audible when making boost. I hit it in 2nd at about 4000 rpm for just a very short time, and the whine was very noticeable.

Because of the fact that I can hear the supercharger pretty well, I was thinking that the low boost readings could be due to a bad gauge reading for some reason. FYI, the vacuum side of the gauge seems to be working perfectly.

Any thoughts? I am getting it tuned on Thursday, and if something is wrong, I need to fix it tomorrow.

Thanks.

Nevermind, got it fixed. Turned out that I had the boost/vac gauge hose in the wrong spot. I originally had it on the nipple used for vacuum diagnostics. The vacuum part of the gauge worked fine there, but apparently the boost part doesn't. So I moved it over to a hose coming directly off the top of the supercharger, and voila. Everything works perfectly now.

It's actually making upwards of 8 pounds of boost, which makes me happy. More power for me.

The tune is on Thursday. I'll post up some numbers that night.

What pulley are you using? I have a 9psi 3.3 for mine and I am going to get a 10% Overdrive Crank pulley to get me @ 12psi and thats probably the max for this kit without getting some Methanol as an intercooler.

You will probably make about 380 RWHP max at 8psi... Should be a fun car to drive with the auto...

I wouldn't put 12 psi on a stock 4.6. Not unless you want to see the rods without taking the block apart.

I very seriously doubt I'll get 380 hp. That's the numbers that PI GTs on 9 pounds of boost make. I'm hoping for 300 honestly.

Yes, my grandma has a Lightning. Intake, exhaust, 4 pound lower, and a tune. It'll move.

Got another question about my car. Just how rough is it supposed to run when I put in the 39 pound fuel injectors?

I put those in today, and just cranked it up a few minutes ago. It is idling very rough, the vacuum is jumping all around from 15 inches to 5 inches, and it's smoking somewhat bad as well, from both tail pipes.

Is this usual? All I did was change the injectors; still on the stock MAF with no tune. I thought it wouldn't be quite this bad.

I was reading the mods in your signature and misread. I thought you had PI heads on that why I said 380. More like 320 witout PI heads. BTW you need a MAF for the 39lb injectors. I dont think a stock one will be big enough for the injectors. It looks like it is running very rich. Dont drive it that way you'll mess up the rings...

Yea, all I'll be driving it is onto and off of the car trailer. I have a Lightning MAF that I'm going to use, but I don't have a coupler that'll go from the MAF to the intake tubing, so that's why it's not on yet. The place that is tuning it has one and I'm gonna put it on tomorrow when I get there.

I think I'm gonna go stick the Lightning MAF right into the entrance of the intake tubing that comes after the MAF, duct tape it up there, and see if the car runs any better. I'm just worried that a spark plug wire isn't on right, or I have missed a connection somewhere, or something other than the injectors are causing it to run so badly. I guess I'm just paranoid. It ran perfectly, with no misses or anything with the stock injectors on there last night.

Taping the Lightning MAF inline isn't going to change anything. These aren't the old 5.0 days when you could trick things to work its all in the tune/ecu so thats where it needs to be corrected. So your injectors might be dumping more fuel then the car is compensating for and you could wash your cylinders if not careful. I'd push it on and off the trailer.
