Hey everyone, I need some tips here, Im going to be dropping the fuel tank on my 94 GT because everytime i fill it up to full gas starts leaking everywere around the tank and onto the road, so basically I cant fill my car and Im obligated to only do about 2 1/4 of the tank everytime and I dont know if its true but cars always seem to consume more gas when the needle is lower than half a tank :dontknow: . I think my problem is around were the fuelpump seals with the tank on top, something may be broken there causing the leak when the tank is full. Just need some tips on how to do this on my own because mechanics are expensive and I dont have much cash right now. I know i need to loosen some metal straps and the filler neck but what else is hidding up there that I cant see.

For some reason my MPG sucks some times, everytime I get off the car I can smell what appears to be fresh gasoline , this has me a little scared because my exhaust is dumped right before the axles and is around the tank, I dont want any ball of fire coming out the pipe that could possibly start a fire. :icon_rr:

Empty the tank first, piece of cake. Have you changed your fuel pump lately? I wouldn't expect the fuel pump assembly seal at the tank to start leaking. I would look at fuel hoses or seal around filler neck.

A common place to look is the fuel filter line in/out. There are small white plastic pins that lock and hold the fuel lines into
place - they're cheap and become brittle with age. My filter is against the body over the axle.

Im willing to bet its the seal where the filler neck goes in the tank on the pass side of the car, there known for going bad on our cars and they leak like a bitch when filled anything over a half a tank when there bad. A new seal can be had at the FORD dealer itself for only $35 bucks. I had to do this to every SN95 ive owned. Its rare the anything on the top of the tank leaks.

Like posted above the 2nd place id look is the filter and there so cheap you might as well buy a new filter they normall come with new clips anyway atleast that way you know its new...

I have the same problem, but from a gas holding tank cover sticking out of the ground that I bottomed out on and broke the seal from the spout to the tank. I'll be throwing a 255lph fuel pump since the tank will be dropped.

Ty for the reply guys, i will have to check to see if its the seal on the filler neck, this only happens to my mustang when i fill it up completely, i have to drive until my needle reaches around 3/4 of a tank for it to stop leaking.

ever have a stereo in the trunk? I have seen a couple of installers use screws that were too long to mount stuff ot the floor. Does it smell like gas in the trunk? If so look for holes in the floor under the carpet.
