I am looking to paint my 95gt gas tank cover, and maybe the the two metal bands around it. Just wondering if the bands are the only things holding the gas tank up? So if i remove them to paint, the tank wont drop on the floor. Thanks

you will probably be better off thinking about powerder coating them or something more durable as I would think the paint would chip off under the stress. I was looking at my tank last weekend at a show and wished I could find a CDC rear aero sheild to go with my side exhaust and cover it up.

Yes that and the filler neck so you have to support it on a floor jack with lumber at least thats what I do before I lower it.

I was gonna spray my straps while on the car.

you could remove 1 strap at a time without to much worry. I wouldn't do it with a full tank of gas.
when I painted the lower part of my bumper I also scuffed the tank cover and straps then shot some black on that too.

If I remember correctly, there's one bolt for each strap. The other end of the strap has a pin holding it on. Take out the bolts, the tank will come down some but the filler neck will hold it on still. Have something to put under the tank. Pull the cover off of it. Sand the cover and hit it with some black and clear. Sand the straps just hanging there, spray and clear them too. Let it all dry good before you try and put it back together. That's how I did it.

I like the aero shield just because it helps it flow better from the side if you have side exhaust like I do.

If anyone ever comes across one please post it up here... Been lookin for a while, last one I saw went for $450 and it was pretty badly cracked.
