Picked up some Motive 4.10s at Superford for $70. Starting to get around to installing them, and at the same time finding that the Kenne Bell fund is WAY ahead of schedule -- I'll be ordering the 6psi kit for my '96 Cobra in May at the latest. Are my 4.10's too steep for 6psi? 10psi? Any amount of boost? I know 1st is going to be pretty worthless without Mickey Thompsons, which is okay really :angel4: but I'm wondering if I'd be better off leaving my stockers in, or going down to a 3.73.

For one, get with me for a good deal on a KB, and secondly, yes, I believe a 4.10 is too much for a kb. now, here's my reasoning, and it may be flawed, but I don't see where. The kb gives INSTANT power and torque, and gears are used to multiply torque for increased accelleration. Now, the problem comes in when you are multiplying a huge torque by a huge factor(your gear ratio) which makes for conditions that will not allow you to get traction. I see most people with kb's using 3.73 or less. I agree, unless you have a 6 speed or even a TKO 600, first gear is going to be worthless with that gear ratio. And given that first is critical at getting the best et or 'feel' of power by getting the car accellerating/moving, maybe less gear is better. put the blower on and see how you like it with stock gearing, and in the meantime get with folks that have a similar setup with the gears you are thinking of going with and see what they say?

What kind of deal are we talking NX? Is this on a new unit or your personal unit? Any pricebreak at all would be a major lifesaver, thanks a lot!! More input on gears is welcome, I think I might try to trade for some 3.73s.

With a KB I would keep stock gears honestly...no more than 3.55s

If its a street car you really wont need all that gear.

I agree. Stock for a KB. You will just fry tires with any steeper gear

Yea....if it was a track car with slicks then by all means, go with some 3.73s/4.10s...but if you drive the car on the street with normal tires and would like to be able to hook sometime before 70 mph you should probably stick with stockish gearing.

I have a Kenne Bell, and I completely agree, no more than 3.73s, but I'd stick with 3.55 or 3.24 gear ratios. My 95 has 3.73s running at 11 psi and launching takes some skill, I'd like to drop down to 3.55s, but I'm not overly worried about that at the moment.

I have 4.10s still in my car after the swap. 1st is useless but 2nd and 3rd are a blast. That being said I'm going down to 3.55's ASAP because by summer I should be pushing 550.
