Hello,

I think the gears is a better choice, but you have to pay for the parts (around $200.00) and the Labour (around $250,00), you probably got a 3.27 or the stupid 2.73, go for a 3.73 or a 4.10 if your car are automatic.

Definitly hands down for the gears...I lost right a half a second off my times when I put the gears on and then I put the pulleys on after that and really did not feel a diffrence.

Save the pulley money for the gears. Is your car and auto or 5-speed?

Do you have a mid pipe? Like an H or X? If not I would say do gears and a mid pipe before the pulleys.

gears and pullies are on 2 TOTALLY different wavelengths man! Pullies are $100 and next to no labor to install. Gears are gonna be around $200 plus a LOT of work to install. I've just gone through all the "extras" that have to be done when you swap gears. Search my name for my post(s) about it. It's NOT just a matter of dropping the gears in and going (as opposed to what i had hoped). There's a good chance you'll need a handheld tuner ($300+) to re-program your shift points, etc and with that also comes tune/dyno time (who knows how much that'll be) to get the car tuned. Oh, and you'll need a "Speed Cal" kit to get your speedometer corrected ($100). Like I said, search for my username and read the posts I started on this topic.

If he has a 96 doesn't he need a new speedo gear instead of a speed cal?

Do you have an auto or a 5-speed? You won't "need" to have your car dyno or handheld tuned if its a 5-speed but a tune is always a great idea. If you have an auto then you should get a tuner to re-program your shift points.

Wes is right, Pulleys and gears are not is the same ball part. The cost can be more than triple for the gears, but gears are the best mod for the buck. I say save up and do gears. Then pickup a good mid-pipe. After that look into a PI cam and intake swap.

He stated in a post earlier that it's an automatic trans. And it being a 96 doesn't impact whether it's a SpeedCal that you use, or a new speedo gear. The Speed Cal is just the "right" way to do it. A new speedo gear will only adjust for up to a 3.73, AND it will also not last, nor be as accurate as a Speed Cal. The speedo gear will eventually strip itself. And it's just as much of a PITA to install as the Speed Cal is from what I've read.

I would go with a 4.30 if your staying N/A, i'm swapping in the 4v cobra motor and i'm going with a 125/150 shot on the car and i'm wondering if i should stay with 4.10's or the 4.30's... O and by the way, buddy of mine has a 97 cobra with 4.30's and he gets 28 mpg on the highway and like 21/22 mixed driving... just got to know how to drive the car and not stay in it all the time...its hard but you can do it...

Ps. Don't waist your time with 3.73's , its just too small of a jump in gears.
