gt40's custom cam AND NO2 will keep them ls1's down. (the bolt on ones anyways) I'd run 11.97's in the 1/4 with my gt40 setup and a 150 wet shot. ls1's don't scare me

Found this on another forum.

"Ford just came out with the Z304 head it will take 2.02/1.60 valves. There is a write up on them in Muscle mustangs and fast ford's july issue. The article quoted "The ford racing Z304 heads are worth a solid 50 HP over the smaller GT-40X heads. Note that the Z304 heads offered a power improvement across the board, a sure sign the GT40X heads were restricting the 392 crate motor." It also states that they flow 275 CFM as the GT40X flow 240 CFM max."

I have GT40X heads. One day I plan to have them ported to see if I can get closer to those Z numbers.

the LS1 cars will always beat us on the top end... thats where they're making all their power... I think Ford should give us the Engine we need to beat the LS1's without a power adder like N2O, or forced Induction. wait, let me rephrase that... I think Ford should give us a NON ohc engine, something with pushrods that can beat an LS series engine without N2O and forced induction.

GT40's ported actually flow pretty well whrn they are worked. On spray you can def take out bolt on LS1's.

which gt40s are you running? :xmas-smiley-022:
those were plain jane iron gt40's off an explorer. they had a clean polish and port job and bigger valves. They worked well for what I wanted. Look into it.

I could run 12.9's on motor and I really only broke 11's (11.97, 11.98) a handful of times. But on the street it was a beast. Search around for a good deal on some heads and don't pay a machine shop to much to do the work. If you spend to much lke alot of guys do on gt40s and the machine work you might as well have bought aftermarket heads. I'm about doing things on a budget type basis. So me buying those and then putting a lot of money into them would have negated the idea.

yea i want to spend about 200 to 400 on a set of gt40s than i can do the portin and polish!!! i did my e7s and they picked up ok for what they are, i would like to do a good port and polish job than upgrade the springs and maybe a 3 angle valve job that should run pretty good right?
