Just got my new wheels, they are 9.0 fronts and 10.5 rears, not going to run 315s because i dont want sumis, and everything else is overpriced, im probbly getting nitto 555s and was wondering if a 285 would look ok on a 10.5 inch wheel, if u have pics of this or anything smaller on a 10.5 id like to see em, thanks

ok then, no it prob won't look too "good"... It will be a bit stretched onto the rim since 275's look best on a 9" rim.. And what's wrong with 555r's?? Yes, they're drag radials but they are the least stickiest and they last longer than the others... Why spend the money on nice rims and then skimp out on tires??

but the treadwear sucks on them, i do not want drag radials.
sucks compared to what? Any tire that provides traction is going to have worse tread life than a tire that sucks. The Nitto DR has great street manners and doesn't wear THAT fast, I know people that tell me their non DRs wear out way too fast and I'm like that sucks my Nittos are lasting great. The nitto DRs are decently priced too for 17's.

I had the regular 555s on my car for a while and honestly didn't like them. They dry rotted within a year and their performance wasn't great. If you only do normal driving I don't see why the 315 Sumis wouldn't be just fine and they will look great. I'm not a huge fan of Sumitomo but I'd buy 315 sumis before buying 285 555s, but obviously that's just my opinion mang.

Sumi's are 90 dollars a tire, what the hell do you expect? Ive heard good things about Sumis all around except for treadwear(but for 90, 15-20xxx miles is pretty good to me) and heavy rain driving, but if your dirving the stang in the rain thats your own fault.

Btw i have 10.5s and in the same situation as you.. the only things out there are the nitto dr's(169), bfgs (330isha tire) f1 (320ish) sumis (90)... other than that there are a few others but those are the ones ive heard bout. And the f1s ive heard dont have good wear either.

well the stang being my only car, and i drive it everyday, its going to be in the rain somtimes, im willing to sacrifice the size of the tire for longer lasting any weather, all around good tire like the nittos.

That may be true BUT you can not, not, compare tread wears between tire companies. They use different methods to come up with their tread wear that is not universal. The only time you can compare tires and tread wear is if they are made by the same company. In all honesty I think for an every day driver the Sumitomos would be a better tire and would probably last longer. 285s on a 10.5" rim is just incorrect and could be unsafe when hitting potholes, etc.

+1. your new rims will be all effed up if there is too small of a tire on them. it sounds like you are completely opposed to a drag
radial, which is your decision, and your car. I am running 315 Bfgoodrich drags ($275 each) and they are a good tire for everyday
driving. but if you absolutely do not want to go that route, buy the sumitumos, but be warned that you will end up replacing
them sooner than you think.... you get what you pay for.

Love my Sumitomo 315's!!! Looks are killer, price is fantastic & I am getting decent treadlife. I don't think $90/tire & 20-30k miles is a bad deal.. you are riding on new tires longer than you would with the high price tires! LOL...
