Going racin' in Phoenix, Az on March 24th - would like hands-on help

After my one-tire fires from my first outing with drag radials (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZidbwFjzKrg&feature=related), resulting in a best time of 13.8 (when my best time on regular Nitto NT555 tires was 13.68), I know I need practice. I determined that I don't have a diff problem after doing some in-the-street testing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFXk2rEp4T4), so I know it's just practice.

So I figure I can go by myself (or with a friend who doesn't know drag racing) and have another 5-10 shitty runs and maybe get it figured out...OR someone on these boards who lives in the area and knows drag racing (especially Mustangs with DRs or slicks) can come with, ride shotgun, and tell me WTH I'm doing wrong. I know it shouldn't be so difficult, but of all the guys I had with me last time, none had raced on DRs.

you could check with the copper state mustang club and see if anyone was plannin on going or could. Super nice people and some great cars.

I think Knuckels would be the guy. I've never ran on DR's but will here in the next month. But you should be able to launch at a higher RPM. Are you dropping the clutch or slipping it out? You have to slip it out.

and OP where in AZ are you and what track? Firebird, Speedworld or the one in Tuscon??

pauls in phoenix if i remember correctly been a while since i sold him some rims like 5 years ago. id be happy to go as long as i dont have anything going on that weekend with the kiddo. we should just have a mustang meet up, ill tell wild bill to "round up" people to go lol.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. I had planned to include the track, but yeah, Speedworld. Kinda fallen out of love with Firebird. And it's in the subject, but March 24th.

I hadn't ever heard of Copperstate Mustang Club, I'll have to check them out.

They are one of the larger clubs in the nation and because of that they get some cool stuff from time to time from ford. When they released the 05 mustang they did a live simulcast at the pavilion theatre, gave us all nice limited edition 1/18th scale mustangs, shirts as well as fed us all for free. One of the club members was invited to bring out his king cobra to put on display for the event as well. Overall though they are a good group and alot of fun.

Ah Speed World is light years from me, I'm in south Chandler. I'm going to Firebird tomorrow though. Track is open! Not running :/ though

I'm down with switching it to Firebird. Looks like the next time they're doing "street" drags is Friday the 30th. I'll probably just go there after work, be there by the time the gates open.

@Ronin ill plan on being there, if you wanna shoot me your number or something. Been a while since i been to a friday night drag. DO you have a portable air pump for air pressure on your tires? make sure you bring an accurate tire pressure gauge as well. Also something else you can do is remove your front sway bar for the night.

Will send you a PM shortly. I don't have a portable pump, was planning on just dropping the pressure to about 20 (I have a good gauge), which will allow me to drive home.

just checked the schedule they are having some event the weekend of the 30th at firebird.

Fix that dif... I have raced on DR's and slicks and I have never had one tire fire.. Fix that so you know you will launch going forward not to the wall

ok after looking at it again more closely indeed there is a test and tune. If you need a low mileage trac lok i have one off my cobra.
