I flipped my quad shocks and put on a set of 10.5 fr500's on the rear with 315's. I've been experiencing something strange ever since i did this. My rear end seems to have developed a slight "shimmy" when going down the road at normal speeds. I will just be driving, and it'll feel like someone the rear of my car shakes from one side to the other every now and then. It's not violent, and doesn't seem to do it in a turn, its just annoying. Any ideas what it could be? If you want an idea of what it feels like, sit in your car and have someone push on the side of the rear of your car, like they wanted to rock it or something. Someone around here said it was because of the size of the wheels, but i don't believe that. Any help is appreciated.

Make sure youre wheels are good and tightly mounted... I'm not sure if that'll fix it, but it might be it, and loose wheels aren't good.

I don't have that prob at all w/ mine 315's on 10.5 here too...I'm w/ duh09 crawl under there and make sure the wheels are seated correctly, double check everything is torqued. Something isn't right and that doesn't sound safe. Did you change anything else?

double check to see if there is any corrosion where the hat of the rear rotor meets the wheel, this could be causing the wheel to not sit perfectly
flush with the rotor, causing a shimmy.. also double check the afformentioned bushings, wheel balance.. etc..

I have 315 nitto DR's mounted on 10.5 wheels on my 95GT. No shimmy issues at all. Also fit fine without flipping the quads but Nittos run narrow. Check your LCA bushings, I had an old E36 M3 and the LCA bushings were shot and the rear moved independently of the car, scary!

Run the car in 1st gear w/ the rear axle on jack stands. Look and see if you have some wheel or tire lateral "runout". Could be a tire issue or wheel-to-hub issue. May have to put old tire/wheels on and watch them spin. Something's definitely not right.

* Make sure the 10.5 wheel's hub opening fits the axle hub snugly.

Are these wheels Ford wheels or aftermarket look a likes?? If aftermarket, they may require plastic hub spacers to fit the hub tightly. Don't let the lugs "center" the wheel on the hub. Ford wheels are "hub centered" or "hub concentric".

I've seen this problem on a BMW w/ aftermarket wheels.

It's the LCA's, 100% sure. The tires only made it more noticeable. My 98 I had bullets on it with 245s, went to 315's and it made it feel horrible. Threw on my MM LCA's, never had a problem with it again

ok, checked it out today and my control arm bushings are fine. I took off my fr500 cause im selling them, and went back to stock 17x8's all around with like-new tires. I found that my problem was a combination of the road and my 10.5 rear wheels. Nothing wrong with the wheels, but the road I usually notice it on is apparently worse than I thought it was, I felt nothing tonight. I guess just having the wider wheels made me notice how they held the road a lot more. Thanks for everyone's help, I still plan on changing the control arms anyway, as soon as I install my p&p pi-heads and hitech stage 2 cams, and my pi intake. Currently waiting on the cams.

You should get those anyway and ditch the hokey quad-shock set-up. I am running BBK uppers/lowers, 1.5" drop springs, with 10.5" Bullets wearing 315/35-17s and no issues come along with that. I am sure you will figure out your situation since it didn't do it before. It's just got to be something simple that has been overlooked. Good luck and let us know what it is you find.
