okay so heres the deal i own a 95 GT, only major mods are kook long tubes and a o\r x-pipe with some flows and 4.10s with stock automatic tranny with shift kit. Other than exhaust its bone stock not even a CAI and im ready to finally start putting some serious power to the ground and i figure a h\c\i upgrade is the place to start but thing is when it comes to heads, cams, intakes and every thing that goes along with that im lost, i can work on cars but as far as when it gets to details with the heads and all the intake stuff i just dont have the knowleged its really not my territory :dunno:. So basically i wanna know what u guys would do if it was your car it still needs to be a everyday driver but i want some more power out of it. any suggestions are welcome and greatly apprciated. So somebody please lead the way...

whats your budget? I would do one of two things 1) if you are looking to use NOS or a supercharger in the future then get a custom cam and talk to shop where you are getting your cam to give your suggestions on what combos work best they will give you the best advise within your price range. 2) you could buy a kit like the Trick Flow 350HP twisted wedge its about $2500 but it come complete with everything you need to put it in. Best advise ask around and do research. I was in your shoes last year with my 88lx and I just saved up and got a 331 long block worth every penny, I am so happy with the performance from that car on the street! just my 2 cents

Good Luck

I was wondering the same info... actually, I was about to start a new topic when I stumbled onto this.
I was looking into the Twisted Wedge setup but I'm like portpolish, I just don't know what to get...

Unless you're going for the super sleeper look get the Twedges. I've been down the Port/Polish road and by the time you get done with a good set of GT40 irons you're GOING to be into them for about $800 if you're LUCKY. The Twedges make great power right out of the box and have a TON of meat on them for porting out later if you want to go bigger.

I love my set-up. i bought most of my stuff used and had a machine shop check everything out. My cars not even tuned and i drive it daily, and it drives great.

the only thing i wished i had done was port my heads and get a custom cam.

+1 for the trickflow power pack from jegs of summit its a completely streetable 350 hp kit however this 350 hp was done with a 306. so youd probably make between 300 to 320. but for 2500 bucks you cant beat that it comes with everything you need except the trickflow adapter elbow youll need for the intake. if not than i would suggest some afr 165s a trickflow or performer rpm intake a custom ground cam 24lb injectors a cai and your current exhaust setup this will put you depending on your cam about 350 to the wheels and a perfect platform for some n2o

I probably paid about $1400 for my HCI(used Performer RPMs then had them checked/cleaned, TMOSS ported cobra lower, used comp XE270HR-112 cam) and then probably another $500 for misc. parts so it can be done cheaper by alot. TFS heads used would be a little more and you'd still be advised to have them cleaned and checked if you didn't get them new with a warranty.

But if you're new to the game and want to jump into your first engine rebuild the TFS or Holley kits are probably the best thing to do since you'll have EVERYTHING in one box.

If you don't have a external cooler with stand alone fan, on the tranny... you might wanna do that before you start ripping into the engine.

Power upgrades on the engine are just going to add more stress to the transmission, and without the proper cooler it will just over-heat and blow up on you.

everyone is asking about how much money he has to spend but its also about what his goals are, 300rwhp, 400rwhp, 500rwhp, more?

Generally a 302 basic HCI goal is 300-325whp.

And yeah since he has the horor that is the AODE he's gonna want the biggest damn trans cooler he can find before he does anything.

yea with a h/c/i 325 rwhp is about right but if he wants to go past 425 rwhp then he will need a new block or a power adder or spray or to completely rebuild his motor...thats why i said it all depends on your goals, as well as money
