Harmonic Balancer help.

I finally understand why people say, "Ya fix one thing, then somethin else breaks." Well it happened. I did the rear brakes, and diff fluid, then I went to test it, everything was fine, the car was much more smoov. UNTIL I get in the driveway. I parked the car to clean the garage up, then I go to start it back up and pull in the driveway. Then it starts vibrating hella bad. I hear this metal clacking noise, so I ease it into the garage and hit it with the light, I can move what's left of the balancer back and forth with my hand.

So whats the most damage I'm lookin at, and How hard is it to replace, any one got instructions?

probably not to much damage if any since you caught it soon.
Really the only thing you need to know to swap it over is righty tighty, lefty loosey.
instructions can be found in your haynes/chilton manual.
some people remove the radiator for more clearance.
the hardest thing is breaking the HB bolt loose. IT IS TIGHT!!!

You will need a harmonic balancer puller, you can usually get one at any decent parts store via rental or purchase.

shucks i just noticed this was in 5.0 i was gonna say i have 3 crank pullies i could give you one if needed. but bout they are the same as a sohc 4.6

don't forget the big washer under the head of the HB bolt or the puller won't work

OK thanks guys, I need to get this done asap, because I need to have the car smogged, refereed, n sh1t by the 21st. Or else I cant get the car registered.....ever.

Go with a power bond. By far the nicest stock replacement I have found. Dorman and pioneers look like crap in compaired to it.

You know surprisingly i had a Pro Products on my old 95 GT VERT and it worked great. That is the one thing they make that is worth buying.

Don't go with the part store ones. They dont fit worth a crap! spend the extra money and get a quality one.

Rock Auto has a Dorman which is just like the OEM one. 47.99.

I have used a Advance Auto one and it worked the same as the OEM and Pro Products one i used.

you may have been lucky and got a good one but I tried 4 different ones. 2 from Autozone/1 Napa, that were so loose that they could be wiggled on the crank. 1 from kragen that the OD was so small that there was gap between the oil seal and the balancer surface. I gave up and just ordered the ford racing one and it fit perfect.

Well there are people on here that have had problems with ford racing ones fitting so the must be crap to. I personally suggest power bond because the quality looks better than the rest. Mine from O'Reilly fits and functions fine.

Yep,remove the crank bolt, get a puller.Make sure your new balancer is a 50 oz if your engine is newer than 1982 or bad shit will happen.pre '82 is the 28 oz.and dont forget about the crank key.
