My headlights seem to have some sort of coating over the outside (i think it is anyway) of them and ive been trying to get it off. I purchased a bottle of headlight restoration solution at a local auto parts store and tried it. A little little better, but not good enough. They then recommend using a 2000 grit sand paper to rub it off, so i went to HD and the highest they had was 600, and they said 2000 is basically a sheet of paper. So i tried the 600 and it more or less just made my headlights a little cloudy and im afraid to scratch them. Any body else ever have a problem like this, or any input? thanks

yea i have the same thing on my 94's headlights and on my expedition. i just bought this kit at autozone made by permatex called headlight restoration kit. it comes with comes with 2500,2000,1500,and 1000 grid sandpaper. also a little bottle of this chemical. i used it on my expedition and it work great. it wasnt that expensive i think like $10. i am going to do the same thing to my mustang when i get a chance.

My headlights used to look REALL dirty. Get 800 grit sand paper, and work your way up to about 2000 and wet sand it. take your time doing it, and you should see like a little milky substance on the headlight as you go. If you took your time and got the headlight as clear as you could with each level of sandpaper then it will look pretty much new when you finish. Let it dry, then get some plastic polish and polish them up.

the stock 1998 Headlights. The person who told me about it owns a 2001 Mustang GT he uses as a show car (wins alot of them), so Im pretty sure it'd be safe to use on the clear newer ones too, you may just have to go up on the grit some more.
