Headlight restoration

What about the three "nipples" on the stock headlights, is there a reason for them or can they be cut off, sanded and polished smooth to look a little more finished?

ive heard many people have sanded them off. im about to do that myself. just going to use my drimmel tool and a small cutting wheel then sand it smooth after im done.

here ya go again
the nips on the pass side were twisted off therefore not a smooth as the driver side
