so ive been without a headlight knob for over a year now. one day last yr i was at a local street racing meet and the cops showed up. when leaving i guess i stomped on the gas and went back into my seat pulling my headlight knob off haha. i glued it back on but it fell off again and one day it just dissapeared and i cant find it anywhere. ive been turning it on with a leatherman or my fingers if i can grab the little metal peice.

anyways do i need to buy a whole new headlight switch assembley or can i just buy the knob somewhere?? if so where do you suggest i look ? btw i looked at every localjunkyard arround me and they rarely have mustangs and most of them are only foreign yards. thanks

You can get just the knob, had a couple at one time but have given them all away over the years

Can also upgrade to a billet knob, they are pretty cheap. I have one now and love it.

the headlight knob came in the mail. it is attatched to the stem.

this seems like the simplest thing to do, yet idk how to do it.

can someone give me advice on how to remove the old knob ? with the stem?

willing to bet if you look at the knob around the stem you will see a set screw that holds the two together

That tab piece comes off and it fits in the headlight knob. If you look at the tab, there should be a place to push in and it will release itself from the metal shaft.

haha yes as he said that is the part that is missing to hold on the factory knob. Thre should be a flat part on it that if you put a flat head screw driver aginst it and push it towards the steering wheel, it will release and slide right off. That goes in the knob and acts as a friction spring to hold it in the knob, and hold the knob on the shaft.

But I thought we were talking about you billet piece.

** last update* put it at the top so nobody has to read the rest. i finally got it on lol. it feels good to have a headlight knob again.

this is like the hardest most frustrating thing ive done to my car, can you believe it? a fckng headlight switch. DOH! :violent1:

this still boggles my mind and im yet to figure it out. im pushing on the tab and it will not budge. besides removing the knob itself, i would really like to know how in the world to remove the STEM.

* ive been trying to get the knob of the stem for the past half hour, and it wont move.

i fully understand the concept of how it comes off, it just wont release. i try pushing soft, hard, this way, that way. this is so frustrating haha :BangHead:

* another update

finally got the knob of of the stem. i put it in a vise and used a punch and small hammer and tapped it until it finally came off.

now i have to get the metal peice off of the stem in the car. hopefully that will be easier lol

The release for the knob assembly is on the switch behind the black plastic (can't think of the right name right now).
