hmmm... water activated bomb??? j/k or...

could be water in a lifter but it would have had to get past the rings
could be cold water hitting a hot cylinder head and cracking but unlikly with iron gt40s

Id pull the valve cover and check all the rockers for looseness.

well the thing is i took off my intake pipe and the throttle body is bone dry but i was thinkinking i have cutoffs under my car no tail pipes i was accelerating through the puddle though could it still have come through my exhaust? it sounds like a loose rocker it really does i just dont get how water could make a rocker just come loose?

i think we may be looking too far into this.

does it by chance sound like an exhaust leak? water could have gotten on the headers and cracked them. other than that, chances are your CAI has an oil-based filter, thus is it much more difficult for water to get into the engine. Obviously anything can happen, but even if a small amount of water did get in, it probably just cleaned your cylinder walls after the combustion cycle turned it into a steam-bath...

pull the plugs, check for water, fuel, broken or damaged plugs, etc. etc. etc.
inspect the headers.
other than that, i doubt you "blewed up yer ford" by slashing in a little water.

how much water are we talking? enough to dunk the filter? just a regular ol' puddle? a small lake?

Sounds more like a cracked header thing. Our cars are notorious for the a/c dripping on the pipes and cracking them. I know quite a few that have gotten theirs rewelded, including myself.

I can only imagine going straight through a puddle could cause the same thing. If you are really worried, as already stated, pull the plugs and check for water. I had a motor get water in it because it rained while I was building it. Pulled the plugs and vacuumed the thing out. Also pulled the oil drain plug and vacuumed the pan out. Runs like a top today.

the car runs and idles fine except for the extremely loud ticking sound lol ill check the header but how would the header being cracked make a loud ticking sound it sounds like metal smacking against metal

Ha, mine snapped in half and I was spitting fire. It sounds like metal on metal. It mostly only made noise under a load though. At idle it wasn't too bad.

I just highly doubt a little bit of water could F up your valve train like that, as I already stated about the water in other motors.

Really? Hmm, I wonder if that's the sound I hear driving around/stopping. Sounds like water hitting a hot frying pan, just couldn't figure out why I would have water steaming up. Thanks.

And yeah OP, I bet it's an exhaust leak, they are surprisingly loud and annoying.

either pull the plugs and look for the one w/ the missing strap or pull plug wires or unplug injectors while its idling and see if it stops making the sound. if its exhaust the tone of the leak will change as there won't be as much pressure on the pipe as the engine pumps the air out. if its a bent valve the sound won't change.

I can understand everyone thinking that it may be an exhaust leak but did everyone forget that he said it shut off and WOULDNT crank? Unless of course the starter wouldnt crank because it got wet. I've had my bronco in such deep water that it came into the cab and it never shutoff, just kept going. I'm thinking he sucked some water in, possibly bent a valve. Do a compression test. If you dont have the tools, you can rent them from most auto parts stores.

You dont bend valves hydrolocking,

You bend rods. And thats my guess. Cold air intakes just make it easier to do. Probably tweaked it bad and the piston is slapping in the bore. I see it alot down here in hurricane country.

Compression test time!

Ill have to get pics of my friend matts 1992 f150 with a straight six. He hydrolocked his motor hauling ass through a small stream. We took out all the spark plugs on the side of the dirt road and cranked the engine over until water was done shooting 10-15 ft in the air and drove it home missing on the second cylinder. We pulled the head off two days later and had a bent valve. I've seen it.
